A few questions for salt flat vets

You won't be able to miss the 5000 RV's, tents, etc at the bend. You can drive from the pits to the starting line(s), but not within the pits unless you have a pit pass. The pits area is quite large...bikes would help there.

    good place for clutch work

Thanks for the reply, it confirms my belief that the new "conversion" discs do not have any marcel and are the chief problem, along with the chinese pressure plates. I took mine out and used an Astro van disc (11") and a used Ford pressure plate. Works like a dream.

Single post lift Good~ Bad ~ or ~ indifferent

I would love to have one. The 2 post in ground would be even better for under car work. I have a 4 post drive on type and it works great for most things...

    good place for clutch work

Harleynut, what did they do to your clutch to fix it? Just curious as it seems to be a common problem.

    Temperature gauge problems

Power should go to one side of the gauge and a single wire from the other side to the sender. Is that a voltage reducer in the pic or? Also it's normal for the gauge to show hot with no power.

Please ID this adapter for transmission

My first thought as well. Adapts the Ford truck "hogshead" to what looks like a GM 3 or 4 speed. Edit: dang I type too slow!

    late V8 valves

Thanks Ross, i think I get it now. I went back and looked at my old valves...seems there were at least 3 different styles in there! Combined with the weak springs it's a wonder it ran as good as it did.

    late V8 valves

Been shopping for rebuild parts for my late (year unknown) V8. I notice that 2 different valve part numbers are listed by some vendors (8ba-6505&1ba-6505). Is this due to the use of valve rotators on some engines? How are they different? I assumed the height of the rotators was made up in spring...

    Can I use these lifters?

Thanks for the replies!...yes it is a stock rebuild. The engine had the hollow steel ones, but they are very worn where they contact the valves.

    Can I use these lifters?

I'm beginning a rebuild on my 8ba type V8. I picked up these NOS lifters a few years ago and may want to use them. I believe they are for earlier V8's. Dimensions appear to be the same.... Aside from how they look, are there any differences?
