    Building Burtz block

I got to this late in the party....but I have a little over 30k miles on my early Burtz block engine now. I haven't heard it mentioned here, I can't stress enough cleaning the engine block prior to assembly, then cleaning it again, brushing out all the internal bores, blowing them out, washing...

I am sorry for many reasons as a New Mexico native and a Model A enthusiast of many many years. I know many of the organizers personally This fire is devastating on many levels and how do you plan for this...you can't... short answer. The Governor has declared a state of emergency officially so...

    Is the bendix a nigtmare?

With the starter removed, place a strong "rare-earth" magnet on the outer diameter of the flywheel...rotate the engine using your hand crank and when the maginet re-appears so will your bolt

    Engine value.

I just purchased 4 complete Model B engines The running take out, which I way over paid for, was the worst of the bunch. The deck is cracked and the block sealed with water glass. "It ran well when I parked it!"

Not uncommon for a valve to stick open when setting for a long time. You can verify by pulling the side cover or you could be able to look into the cylinder thru the plug hole. I have a buddy that got a real good bore scope attachment for his smart phone, cheap. The problem is that the crud...

    Compression PSI

Hello to all in T land I acquired a 1918 T Roadster awhile back, though it has electric start added and changed to a steel firewall. It was running pretty rough and I started down the road of troubleshooting. In the process, I took all the spark plugs out and performed a compression test. 40...

    Looking for commiseration

Yeah, I hear you Working on old cars can kind of be like drinking from a spittoon sometimes... I had three engines in my Cabriolet in one week and then the LF brake fell apart on the test drive...but I didn't die and the last engine runs real respectable In my mind 'full enjoyment' includes the...

    Valve Cover

How old is the gasoline that you are running it on....the gas of today is made to burn, not be stored. Some fresh gas may help though the T engine is pretty forgiving on fuel, however this is troubleshooting. Also, run the engine in the dark, after sundown, you can see all kinds of arcing and...

    Leaking head gasket

I agree with the re-torque and pay attention to the fastener by the distributor. Someone may have wimped out on it. I always pull the distributor to tighten. Barsleak, the modern stuff has particulate in it that will plug the radiator and wipe out the water pump seal and shaft. good luck
