"The Dust Bowl" by Ken Burns

I just finished the PBS two-part program on the Dust Bowl, by Ken Burns... I had no idea the magnitude of this man-made ecological disaster. When the migration westward had started, these cars had seen 80 or so dust storms a year; new deseases like "dust Pneumonia" killed thousands of people. A...

    For the Henry Ford historians...

Thank you to all who responded. I received a personal message and have decided to donate it to the Owlshead Transportation Museum in Owls head , Maine, as they have both auto and aircraft collection, this just seems to make sense. I don't know how the rest of you may feel about making...

    For the Henry Ford historians...

I haven't posted in a while, but I was going through some of the old stuff saved by my parents, and found a "News and World Affairs" newspaper Called "Pathfinder"; It is dated June 22, 1940 (in their 47th year, so it says). In it I saw a stern picture of Henry Ford and found the following text...

    Where does your club meet?

Now this sounds like a good way to do it... My experience with clubs, any clubs, be it car clubs or whatever, is that an elite group will form within the club, who have nothing but time, money and all the empty space one could ask for. Then sub-groups will form... a motor home group, a t-bird...

    grinds in all gears

Mike, I notice this was your first post. Welcome to the forum. You cannot really shift a Model A without grinding a bit if you shift it like a modern stickshift car... try this; Depress the clutch to the floor, wait a second or two, then aim the stick toward first with very little pressure and...

Is there a definitive leatherback top method?

Supergnat, if that's your daily driver, your "Special Occasion" car must be a real beauty. That car (and the top) look great. Richard

    Opinions please

Hedbanger, if I may go off in left field with this thread, in my opinion, this is a great example of how this forum should be used... great photos, excellent and helpful (not critical) responses. You asked for opinions and you got them straight and clean, with no critiques. Good luck on your...

Side Mount Spares vs. Rear Mount

That roadster is beautiful, then again, I am partial to black cars. Now if you could just consider blackwalls... I know, that issue has been beat to death. Still a great roadster, and I like the fender spare, especially with the black tire cover.

Side Mount Spares vs. Rear Mount

My '29 coupe was with a trunk, rather than a rumble, and rear spare. I liked the looks, but access to the trunk was made more of a challenge with the spare in the rear... especially getting to the front of the trunk. Spare tires are in the way, no matter where they are, and flat tires on the...

Model A Fords in the Military

I was aware of the political side of Henry Ford, having read quite a bit about his life, and it was not my intent for this to drift off subject, but thank you for that viewpoint also... maybe his feelings did have some affect on the lack of military Model A Fords. It just seemed odd to me that...

Model A Fords in the Military

Why is it that Model A Fords never show up "in uniform"? I googled it up and found some pictures of artillary vehicless. AA trucks, but have never seen any restored vehicles still existing... anybody know of any still around?

    Getting Away with Murder

Usually I try to be a gentleman on this forum, but this thread is really testing my ability to be calm, cool and non-confrontational... There are no exceptions to safe driving and obeying the rules of the road. This is common courtesy and civility. Learn how to drive in the rain. Drum brakes...

    Buying a car sight unseen...

I bought a 1929 Special Coupe, sight unseen, other than pictures on line. The seller was honest as the money exchange was concerned, but his idea of "restored" and mine were different. It was a car with 42k original miles, painted and reupholtered only. New tires, ran okay, but was a twenty...

New/Old Huckster body home at last !

Between this thread and the one about the "1927 Mercury" posted recently, I cannot help but feel inadequate in so many ways... The workmanship is excellent and I am anxious to see the finisned huckster. You should be proud of yourself. Well done. I am curious to the final color scheme... have...
