Is there a way to decode a 1949 vehicle number? I get the 98BA and assume the branch refers to Kansas City but I can’t make any sense of the rest.

Is there anyone re-publishing Lawson’s Flathead Facts? Ron’s book has a great deal on info on the rebuild process and Flathead Facts would be a great compliment to it. The problem is that I can’t find a copy anywhere. If anyone knows of a source for the book please let me know.
Hi all,
I’m going to be pulling the 8BA out of my ‘49 Shoebox. Does it make more sense to disconnect the transmission or pull it out with the engine? It’s a 3 speed non-OD.

mfirth - thanks for the lead. the Maine border is only an hour away. Unfortunately, when I looked up Dan’s location he’s a good 6+ hours from me.
Hi All,
This is my first post. I’m looking at buying a Flathead as the start of a long term Model A project. I’ve found a few engines in my area ranging from $100 disassembled rust buckets to $2,500 rebuilt long blocks. I’m looking for something in between. I’ve found an 8BA engine that has...
