    Cloth wiring options

I am an advocate of the 'spend a bit more to get a lot more quality' school. In this case, aircraft wire is performance certified and 5 years down the line you won't be repairing it again - buy from this aircraft supplier. Most available generic wire is stiff becase cheap copper is used, the...

    Condenser

When a condenser looses it's capacitance, the points will start to go bad. If the points stay without pitting, ignore the cap. If you choose to change the points, change the capacitor as well. They are both relatively cheap.

What kind of jack do you carry

I was going to offer AAA but since it's already posted ... I will simply thank this thread for reminding me to include a torque wrench for the lugs. Never crossed my mind and I do have a $20 HF spare. Maybe a rubber mallet for the wheel covers as well. OK, a well stocked tool chest too and 2...

    Offenhauser 400 Heads Value

Having new such heads I learned polishing also affects value. I paid $600 to have my new heads (plus intake manifold) polished.

    temperature readings on.....

The water flow pattern within the radiator may hold the answer as to why the temperature appears hotter at the bottom of the radiator than at the inlet. You didn't give a reading for the top tank. FWIW, while I don't have possession of my car (at mechanics awaiting more work), I was able to...

    Ad Scams

Well, as a fellow human I early on I learned to IGNORE. I haven't been sought out as a target because I am not a target. Yes I have wasted small fortunes when I let my emotions get the best of me and ignored that little inner voice saying "uh uh, walk away". It's on me when I say, "Here's...

    50 Merc Trunk Lock

My 1950 Merc trunk latches when given a hard slam shutting of the trunk lid. That hard slam became needed when I installed new rubber weatherstrip. Although the trunk locking key turns both directions, it but will NOT prevent the trunk from opening in either ccw or cw position. Starters to...

What's up with Fastenal Blue Line freight?

October - I used Fastenal to get an engine mid-california to portland, that in September when they reopened. Good people, great price ($165)

    Thread - I screwed up

When I started this thread I was really interested learning only the thread size of the petcock. Yes, I did post a link which undermines the theory of my situation but I did as I was told, right or not. I am glad and thank you all for the ideas presented. My conclusion now is: my sensor is...

    Electric short somewhere

'Somewhere' is likely to be where the wires pass through a bulkhead. Pay attention to those places in the body where wires go from drivers area under dash, making their way on the drivers side from front to the rear lights. Worst comes, use a new wire to replace the errant shorty one...just...

    Thread - I screwed up

After 6 rereads I simply don't understand what you are trying to say. Can you rephrase it all? I'm trying to understand what may be an important concept. Read this pertinent article in Hot Rod... https://www.hotrod.com/articles/tech-qa-correct-fan-switch-location/ It would seem that car...

Optima battery will only chug to 50%

Don, I also keep a 6v and a 12v motorcycle battery on the bench for checking things. They are quite cheap.

    Remote oil filter. Help!

Tubman - You are certainly in the majority all around. I've been talked into removing the filter by someone with more eperience than ne. Reluctantly. Re the test of passing oil through the filter every 11 minutes, that's interesting and totally believable.

    Thread - I screwed up

Just read an article in current HOT ROD magazine on this topic. Apparently new cars have a temperature sensor at the inlet to the water pump and attempt to maintain 200-220°F for best coolant results. Water pump inlet is the same as lower radiator tank. Done please...I'm 2 weeks away from...
