    Old parts

I was put on hospice yesterday. I want to give away a Model A bell housing that is clean, painted, and mounted on a chunk of plywood as a wall mount. The cost is, you have to take the other Ford parts too. I think the kids will chuck it all when I croak. Little Dearborn is about twenty miles...

I drove my 55 on Woodward during the 100th anniversary celebration. It was hot that night.

DOT5 in Minnesota; keep trying or switch to DOT3?

After years of Minnesota winters. I have used DOT5 in all my builds, along with two brothers in laws cars. All with no problems. Yes it will evaporate a half ounce a year. I fill it and drive on. I also lived for 16 years in southern Illinois. I used DOT 4 there with good luck.

The flathead had an oil filter, (sludge collector), inside the crankshaft. Centrifugal forces took the particles out of the oil and they went in the hollow part of the crank. At overhaul time, you need to remove the plugs and boil the snot out of the crank.

    1955 Ford Fairlane

Use your first winter to put on the power steering. Each piece can be rebuilt for a fair cost at Lares Steering in Cambridge Minnesota. They can be thrusted. The car takes on a whole new enjoyment with P/S and the auto trans. Your bride will drive the wheels off it.

If you can find a really good front end man, he will tell you the stock specs are only a suggestion.

    need to adjust clutch pedal

I had trouble getting the required one inch of pedal free play. I had my wife hold the pedal down, and while unde rthe car I adjusted the rod until a .030 feeler gauge fit between the flywheel and the disc. End of problem, it stayed that way for years with no trouble, and always one inch of free...

    rochester 2g's on a Y-block edelbrock 3x2 intake

If you can still find the small 283 size, they make a wonderful carb for a three two intake.

    rear end suggestions

One more thing to consider, put in a vacuum gauge up where you can watch it while driving. Depending on if you live in hilly country, and the fact the a 292 is a torque monster, your gears may be just right.

    y block ticking

Only when driving takes the noise to behind the flywheel. Those U joints may seem OK, but I would bet the price of a U joint that one is bad.

1955 Ford ranch wagon/ Lower control arm bushings

If your car is a stock restoration, new springs from Detroit is the way to go. A few years back the guys over on the HAMB were recommending Aerostar springs available at the time from O'Reilly's. They may lower the front just a bit.

    1956 mercury 312 stalling

Go back and read post five. I had a 55 sedan, I removed the tank and cleaned it. The clean tank gave all sorts of crud. I made a new sock out of three layers of fine screen, folded together, and wired on the pick up tube flare.

    Draft tube block off plate?

Any standard Ford or Chev fuel pump block off plate with its gasket can be used. Apply sealer to the bolt threads, and make sure the bolts are not too long.

    oil pressure to rockers?

The center bearing on the cam has a groove machined in to run oil to the top. If one side gets more than the other, there is a restriction between the cam and the top. You can remove the rocker shaft from the dry side and run a 1/4 drill as far in to the head as it will go. Then with the plugs...
