It's like this fella's. Us younger builders have a tough time finding parts for two basic reasons.
1) People think that old car parts are gold plated and charge accordingly
2) Other folks with the experience tend to hoard parts. Look in your garage and see how many parts you have.
So, I wonder...
Thanks Walt. The reason I was asking is that during the cleaning process some shops bake the block. Since I haven't selected a shop to clean the block yet, I wasn't sure if it would damage the tube.
I'm tearing down a 8BA and have a question about the oil gallery tube that runs the length of the camshaft oil gallery. Seems to me that this should be removed prior to cleaning and inspecting the block. Is that correct?
Next question is how do you remove the tube?
Thanks.
I just acquired a 59 series flathead motor with factory relief. it had stock 59AB heads. Are there any aluminum heads available for a relieved engine any more? In the day I'm told that mostly only track motors would use relieved blocks with appropriate heads.
Just thought I'd throw it out there.
d., how many other members are in our area? Would it be conceivable, if there is interest, to have a little Ford Barn swap meet? I'm just thinking and probably drinking too much coffee this morning!
Funny thing about groups and swap meets in this area, there don't seem to be any. Been here for 10 years and have been to one local swap meet. They must keep that stuff a secret!
It's tough to find a good T frame out here. I picked up two frames thinking I could use them as patterns or at least examples. I wouldn't consider using them, way to pitted. I've seen T frames from $100 up to $450 for stock and not much better than what I've got.
So what do folks do if they are...
Okay, I've got them cleaned and glass beaded. Now I need to polish the bodies.. or find someone to polish the bodies.
Any advice on polishing out Holley 94's?
I've added a couple of photos to help. Carb on the far left is the 59.
Carbs in the center are the 91-99's. Card on the right only says Ford on the float bowl.
Wow! Thanks ya'll. Good info!
The smooth top carb does have a vent. But it also has 91-99 cast into the float bowl.
The carb I thought might be a chandler is apparently an aftermarket Holley.
