    This day in automotive history

When I was a kid I saw a car with white wall tires but they were facing the body of the car, black side out. I asked my dad why someone would do that and he said white wall tires got scraped, scuffed and damaged easily, ruining their looks. After that I saw other cars like that. He never had WSW...

    59A/B Stud Challenge

Last summer I twisted off 2 studs on my 1941 flathead truck. I wasted over a day trying to weld nuts and washers with my wire welder. It just didn't get hot enough. I used the drill out method to remove them described on reds-headers.com, engine talk, broken head studs-more removal tips. I got...

    1941 generator help

1941 V8 one ton truck. When the engine warms up there is a whine from the area of the front of the generator. I would like to check the front bearing but I can't see how to get the pulley off so I can slide the shaft out. It looks like it might screw off but I can't tell. Can you please tell...

    Honing wheel cylinders...

The original wheel cylinders in my 1941 truck were so rusted and messed up after sitting 50 years I couldn't even get them apart. I sent them out to be resleeved with stainless steel sleeves. They came back good as new and work great. Very glad I kept the originals.

    Wheel Cylinders Where Art Though?

All of the brake cylinders were so bad on my 1941 after sitting for 50 years I couldn't even get them apart. I sent them to California to have stainless steel sleeves put in. They came back like brand new and work perfectly. I strongly recommend using the ones that came on your vehicle. Let me...

    Flathead loses power under load

I had a very similar problem with my 41 truck. I thought it was the fuel pump, but I took my carburetor off and cleaned it again, making sure all the little passages were clear. I put a fuel filter on the fuel line just before the fuel pump and that problem was solved. I had rebuilt the carb a...

    Adjusting brakes

You can't get the full 30 pounds of downward force on the peddle with this method. Some of the force will travel down the 2x4 and against the seat. Someone who remembers their physics better than I do, could figure out the correct weight to use to end up with 30 pounds of force on the peddle...

    Strange electrical problem

I agree with 37 Cab. Take both battery cables off at both ends, shine up all the parts that touch and reinstall.

    Fuel pump

This is a little off topic but I don't think my reproduction fuel pump is pumping enough fuel to my 1941 engine. Are there good ones and not so good ones? If so, which are good? I put a clear fuel filter in the line so I can see the fuel flow which is why I don't think it works well. Thanks.
