The hood release lever in the cab will not pull back. I can tell that if I pull any harder the handle would likely break. Is there anything I can do to free the cable/hood latch up?

Is there any reason I should be leery of a 1950 Ford Club Coupe that has an overdrive transmission? A seller has told me that transmission was plagued with problems. This is the first I have heard of that.
