    what is this part?

That looks like the front motor mount on my 55 Town Sedan but I'll have to jack my car up and crawl under it to be sure. Too hot today (101F or 38.3C). Maybe in the morning while it's still in the lower 80s before the sun comes up.

    Newbie from the Netherlands

Check your vin tag ~ the W should be a V. Checked the vintag again and it clearly says "W" This is curious. The chart I'm looking at (on the internet so you know how that goes...) says that code W calls out Mainline Ranch Wagon for years 1953, 54 and 55. In 1956 code W is for a Crown Victoria...

which way is which for dome light

You had a 50% chance of getting it right. I operate on the same law of nature. If there's only 2 ways it can go, I'll choose the wrong way first.

    Y-block oil drain plug

Follow up. It's been over 100F here for the past month so working on the Fairlane has been put off. However I finally pulled the oil drain plug to measure it. For those who need to know, the diameter of the threaded portion of the plug is 7/8". I got a nylon washer with 7/8" ID, about 1/8"...

Welcome to the site. I have a 55 Town Sedan that I'm still learning about. I'll be watching your threads and questions to see what others have to say that might also help me. I'd be curious to see what your data plate shows for date and color codes. Condolences on the loss to Morocco last night.

    Y-block oil drain plug

55 Ford Fairlane with 272 Y-block. I've had the car a little over a year. On the first oil change I noticed the drain plug didn't have a gasket, so I made one out of a carboard cereal box. The car drips oil...enough to make the wife complain. I looked under it today and tightened the drain plug...

    Spin-on Oil Filter for a 292 Y-block

The crack team at your O'Reilly store is truly cracked. A 51515 should have been their first choice.

    Y-block valve cover nuts

This is my first Y-block (272 inch in a 55 Fairlane). I've been wondering about the two (each) hold down nuts on the valve covers. I put a wrench on them the other day and they weren't very tight. I asked a mechanic if he knew the torque specs on those and he looked it up on his computer and...

    55 Fairlane fuel woes

Previous owner plastered the trunk floor with sound deadening. I'm still getting the fuel pump issue sorted out. Once I do that I'll make the decision whether to peel up the dynamat or just drop the tank.

    55 Fairlane fuel woes

I'm not sure there's an access panel or not. Good tip! I'll go check.

"lil red" 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente

Thanks for all the pics! I had a 65 Ranchero with the same design console. I like your homemade emblem replacement. As for brakes, mine had broken springs in the front and the MC went bad so I converted to disk in front with a dual MC. Much improved braking. I used a bracket made by Scarebird...

    57 Tbird tail shaft ID

    The 9M17 looks like a date code....possibly December 17, 1959.

    64 F100 master cylinder conversion

I can't speak to your specific application but when I converted my 65 Ranchero to front disk and upgraded the MC to dual bowl, I used a 74 Maverick master cylinder but used the original Falcon pushrod. It worked perfectly.

    steady rest

My 55 still has it but it also still has the original Y-block. As for deleting it, I always go back to the idea that a manufacturer never adds a piece to a car unless it's necessary. Why would they increase the cost of the car unnecessarily?
