    Cylinder sleeveing distortion?

Thanks for the replies so far. A reputable machine shop I was talking to about doing the work said it could be a possibility. I thought it sounded logical, kind of like using a torque plate to do final hone on the cylinders to simulate the stresses of the head bolted down and what that can do to...

    Cylinder sleeveing distortion?

Hi All, I have an 8ba block that is in need of 1 sleeve to fix a pitting issue on #4 cylinder after water seeped into the cylinder during a period of extended inactivity (head gasket or previous pin repair didn't hold). The block is pretty fresh and is at 3.3125 now. All the rotating assembly...

Checking blocks for condition Pressure testing

Yes, I learned that lesson the hard way. I now have my own testing plates too. I like the one you have there. Do you do a leak down test or are you using a soap bubble method too? How high do you pressurize the blocks?

    Stromberg 97, what's missing?

So the new Stromberg BIG97 secondary carbs are purposely designed this way. No power valves or accelerator pumps. You have to run them in a progressive linkage configuration and operate similar in theory to the original OEM tri-power setups of the muscle car era. You run off the primary carb and...

    Stromberg 97, what's missing?

Update:7/27/22 After waiting for the idle jets to arrive and getting Covid, I finally got them installed and tested operation. That did help quite a bit but had to jet down from factory 56 jet to 046 on the primary carb to get the AFR back to a reasonable level.

    Stromberg 97, what's missing?

Big97 Secondary's do not have a PV or accelerator pump system.

    Stromberg 97, what's missing?

I sent a message to Stromberg and Clive got back to me. He is sending me a pair to install. I'll let you know how it runs after I get them in.

    Stromberg 97, what's missing?

"There doesn't appear to be any "J" tubes on the rear carburetor either. What is the brass fitting in front of the accelerator pump hole in the middle carburetor? The 3 carburetors appear to be of the improved idle circuit type." So the internals on the BIG97s are a little different than the...

    Stromberg 97, what's missing?

Trying to get my new tri-power set up running and pulled the tops off to have a look. Who can see an issue with one of the secondary carbs? This is a Big97 Primary/Secondary setup.

    Mallory Magspark coils

Are you referring to the rectangular ones? If so, I had used one a while ago on a hot SBF. Got it from a swap meet so I was lucky it still was good.

No oil pressure on fresh rebuild

We got the engine back in the car and fired up without incident. Oil pressure was good and no abnormal noises. Got it up to operating temperature twice so far and retorqued the heads each time. One more heat cycle and should be good on the head torque. Then need to set the carbs and timing...

No oil pressure on fresh rebuild

So, I did prime it with a qt of oil, had the plugs removed and cranked it over with the starter and no oil pressure was built up. . I knew then the engine had to come back out of the car. So got to work on that to get access to the rear idler gear. Pulled the cover and what do you know, I had...

No oil pressure on fresh rebuild

"Did you fail to pack the oil pump with Vaseline or light grease?" Used assembly lube. robib What brand camshaft did you use? Just did a rebuild and had no oil pressure after awhile. Turned out it was the gear that is pressed on the rear of the cam for the oil pump. Did not have the proper...

No oil pressure on fresh rebuild

Just tried starting new rebuild and could not develop any oil pressure. I previously forced oil in the rear tap a couple weeks ago to prime the pump, but has been two weeks ago. The motor started, saw the oil pressure gauge flutter a little bit and then settled on 0. I thought it should have...
