8ba Rebuild - worth the cost?

Little update: for my broken valve, I simply cleaned the valve seat on the affected cylinder, installed and hand lapped a new valve/guide and put in a new head gasket. She's purring along again just as she was. This will get me through the rest of this cruise in season. This winter, I'll re...

8ba Rebuild - worth the cost?

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll likely do some sort of economical refresh on the engine. I only use it for local cruise ins and the occasional joy ride. I have other toys that require money some of which are sentimental. If this were a numbers matching 66 GTO, Shelby, or something...

8ba Rebuild - worth the cost?

I do like this idea. Dingle ball hone, valve job, rings, bearings. I've done this on other engines. I've heard it referred to as a farmers rebuild. I mentioned this to some folks in the past and was completely flamed for even thinking about not exhausting my life savings on a professional...

8ba Rebuild - worth the cost?

I'm confident in my ability to assemble the complete drivetrain after machine work. Gap rings, lap valves, etc. With that said, the machine work will be at least 3K, and the rebuild kit likely 2k+. Either way I'm looking at at least 5k for a 3500 - 5k car when done.

8ba Rebuild - worth the cost?

Hi all, I'm pretty sure I know the answer here especially on a forum such as this. Nevertheless, I'll ask for input. I have a very original, very rust-free 52 4 door customline. She's a driver quality car. Lots of scratches, dents, original interior, etc. etc. Anyhow, the 8ba is finally due...

    Jay Leno's ceramic detailer

Even brand new cars have industrial fallout (iron particles from railyards, cars, pollution, and such) embedded in the fresh paint. Having said that, even new cars can use some paint attention if you really want to make the paint look its best and last. "Ceramic" detailers have a trace amount...

    52 Customline upholstery kits?

Are there any companies out there that make upholstery kits for the 52 customline? I can't seem to find any legit sites. Thank you

94 carb leak at accelerator pump shaft

I agree things can happen during shipping, which is likely what happened. I think he did a great job with the carb! car runs so much better now. As bad as it leaked before, I'm grateful he took on my carb job as I don't have the know-how to do what he did. I didn't expect the 73 year old metal...

Blow by from oil fill tube

Very respectfully, what is the issue with keeping an old car road worthy on a tight budget? I can see if someone was doing something unsafe. In my instance, I know the engine is worn (low compression) and needs rings and a valve job at the least. I'll only put a few hundred miles a year on it...

94 carb leak at accelerator pump shaft

Update: I sent my carb to Charlie in NY. She still leaks, but it's 95% better. I can live with the amount of seepage I see now.

Help troubleshooting miss at all rpms

Seems like MMO in my gas and putting a couple hundred miles on helped a lot. She's running pretty good now! Still old and tired but very drivable for now. We'll see how long she lasts like this. Thanks everyone.

Blow by from oil fill tube

So I've been running her with some MMO in the gas. Running pretty good now. I ended up sealing up some spots in the heating system and firewall that were the biggest culprits of fumes entering the cabin. Seems to have helped tremendously. She's still tired, but running pretty good now! Drive on!

    aftermarket water temp gauge?

Looks like I'll likely go with just one aftermarket and keep my stock unit working too. Thanks guys! I have the ol girl running pretty good now!

    aftermarket water temp gauge?

I'd like to add two aftermarket temp gauges, one for each head. My stock gauge also works. Is there a way to keep the stock gauge working If I add aftermarket too? I assume I can't get the stock gauge to work on an aftermarket sender or vice versa. I'll be adding voltmeter and oil pressure...
