    New brake shoes adjustment.Rear.

I did see a topic discussing this lately but cant find it . The new shoes still too tight on new cast rear drums with adjustment screw wound right out.Instead of sanding thickness off the new shoes could I just shorten the 'Brake adjusting shaft' a little ?? Has anyone tried this ??
