After driving slow in a hot 4th of July parade, my model A hasn't been running well. I cant get it to stay at a consistent idle. It also is hard to catch when starting. Its like fine tuning the idle lever on the column. It is either a fast idle or it stalls. I rebuilt the tillotson carb but...
Re-torquing sounds like a good first step to see if that will fix it. I was following the Paul Shin video and thought that since I was taking the distributer off that I would need to retime. Thanks for all the responses.
I'm getting coolant leaking out at the head gasket so I'm planning to replace the head gasket. First question is that I assume since it doesn't have a letter on top that it is a standard head and uses A605M gasket. Once the head is off and I need to move piston 1 to TDC, do I need the timing...
Thanks for the comments. The GAV was open 3/4 turn so I've closed it to 1/4 turn. I'll see if I can oil the throttle mechanism and will try shutting down with the gas valve closed. I'll let you know if it works. Rain today so no A.
My 1930 A will let out a very loud backfire sometimes after I turn it off. It happed on the way back and forth to a local parade on a very hot 4th of July. It will also backfire when I drive up a long hill and park at the top. Am I running too rich or too lean? Or is this a carburetor issue...
The right side looks good except for the cotter pins on the toggle bolts face outward. Back on the left side the carrier plate is bent pretty bad. Add one more part to the order from Tam’s.
Hi Randy,
Thanks for the advice. I'll flip those cotter pins around when I put it back together. The rubbed parts all still seem solid. I was thinking of just reusing them. Do you think I can bend the bridge on the carrier to make it parallel to the carrier? Or should I replace it? Seems...
I pulled my rear brake drum because it was making a terrible noise after using the parking brake. It seems I am missing toggle pins and one of the springs. I am about to order a new parking brake shoe band, springs and toggle pins. It seems like that’s all I need to fix this. Am I missing...
