    37-40 steering box

Saw this on HAMB the other day and booked-marked it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=707989&highlight=1940+steering I did notice your post in the forum also and you stated that you were putting it in a 36 coupe. I'm quite sure that you'll have to do some work on the mount...

    garage door opener

Had the exact same problem. Mine was from using solid core plug wires. I probably could have lived with it but my all electric gauges didn't work either. I switched to suppression wires and it solved both problems.

    t-5 confused which one?

After you count the gears as Pete suggests, you can use this chart to help compare the old Ford 3 speed to a T-5

    42-46 distributor bolts

This is correct. Here's a pic of the bolts Ford recommended. These bolt eliminate much of the rotational movement and do make quite a difference. Regular bolts and studs will no be as precise but lots of guys use them as mentioned above. Ford also wanted them used on the timing cover also.

Fired my flathead today for the first time!!!

The car was a 47 coupe with a 49 Merc that was just rebuild. It was bored .125 over, Isky Max1 cam. Entire reciprocating assy was balanced with flywheel and pressure plate. Ran smooth as silk and tacked up to 5000 very quickly. 2 97's on Elelbrock intake and Edelbrock heads. It had about 500...

Fired my flathead today for the first time!!!

This event brings back some bad memories. Years ago I had the similar thing happen to me. We did all the tests you did and determined that "all was fine" just as you did. That engine ran perfectly for 6 months and then one day while cursing down the road at a leisurely 55 mpg, all hell broke...

Need some 59ab Main Seal info

Very interesting. I followed you lead and called FelPro Tech Line (800-325-8886) and they told me the same thing, that is, DO NOT SOAK white seals in oil. He said the rope seals used to be made with asbestos and required soaking. The white seals now are made of nylon with a white graphite...

Need some 59ab Main Seal info

Thanks, Ken for the info. I've had good results with the rope seals on a few 8ba's that I've built and always soaked them first. The RTV tips make sense also.

Need some 59ab Main Seal info

I'm getting ready to assemble a 59ab and wondered if I need to soak these main seals in oil. They are coated with a white soapy substance that I don't recall seeing before. Also, that cork piece that goes in the groove under the rear main...does it need any special attention? Any tips would...

    Bob Drake water pumps
