    Generator not charging

30 closed cab PU- Thanks for the note. I've copied some of the info in the posts you referenced. Also Katy wondered what rpm I run on my fixture. By taking the motor data from My GE fixture motor and measuring the diameters of the pulleys on the motor and the generator, I calculate the...

    Generator not charging

Katy, I don't have a tachometer on my generator fixture, but the rpm is sufficient to allow model A generators to work. I have used this fixture for over 20 years and have used it to test many generators and used it to adjust the charging rate by moving the 3rd brush. Don

    Generator not charging

Thanks for the note. I have an instrumented fixture with a motor and a cutout. I'm measuring any voltage generated at the generator terminal. I have polarized the generator with the Motor not running.

    Generator not charging

I have a model A generator that won't charge, but will run as a motor on the bench. I suspect that the generator does not have enough residual magnetism to start the charging process. If lack of residual magnetism is the problem, how is it corrected? If residual magnetism is not the problem...

    freed up stuck engine

Thanks for the input. We will be able to add oil and turn it over once or twice a year. I had forgotten about the acetone evaporating. Chainsaw bar oil sounds like a good idea and from your avatar GB, it looks like you've got a lot of experience with chain saw bar oil. Thanks again, donQ

    freed up stuck engine

A friend had a stuck engine that we were able to free up with a 50-50 mixture of ATF and acetone. The engine will continue to be stored for some time. Will leaving the acetone /ATF mixture in the engine cause problems or should it be cranked out of the engine and the oil changed? donQ

    1935 tail light housings

The reproduction 35/36 tail lights from Vintique have a SS housing painted black. (they're non- magnetic.) This is so they can use the same housings for 33/34 and 35/36, but just paint the ones for 35/36. Were the original 35/36 tail light housings made of SS or of conventional steel. don Q

    V12 Torque #s

The May 2015 issue of Classic Car had an article on a V-12 Continental. It gave the 292 cu in V-12 a horsepower rating of 120 at 3900 RPM and 220 lb -ft of torque at 2000 RPM. Donq

    lincoln v-12 bank angle

I understand that the angle between the cylinder banks on a V-12 is 75 degrees. How do they get even firing of the cylinders with this arrangement? Do they have 2 plane crankshaft? Donq

My 1940 ford will not stay runing

I had a similar problem with a 40 Ford. It turned out to be a bad condenser. I added a spark checker between a plug and its wire and looked at the flash. After a short time the flash got dimmer and the engine quit. I knew the points were good so I put another new condenser in. The initial...

    outside oioer

Thanks guys. I'd like to get the benefit of more oil to the front of the engine, without going to the trouble of removing magnets and adding slingers. DonQ
