    Devastating Blow

I got my 30 coupe 9 years ago. One of the 1st things I noticed was that there is almost no one on the road today that knows what hand signals are! The only ones who realize what you are doing is bikers. Most people driving cars have no idea why your arm is straight out the window or straight up...

    Pearl Harbor

Barnstuf, what Tinker said goes for myself also. Thank You Sir! My 1st boss right out of high school was a sailor in WW2. He was in Pearl Harbor a few months after the attack. He always said there was really no way to fully describe it. I think I’m down to only knowing 1 WW2 vet now. All have...

    Pearl Harbor

Hi All, I just got the opportunity to do some catching up here on the Barn. I asked my 84yr old mother the other what day it was. Her mind isn’t so sharp anymore. When I told her it was Pearl Harbor day she got very emotional. She told me how one of her Uncles ( my great Uncle) was at Pearl...

    This is sad...

Truely sad.. I'm almost to the point where I'm afraid to take out my coupe. People today have seemed to have lost their common sense. Speed limits mean nothing. People constantly will tailgate me. Even if I'm in a 55 mph area 50 or so. It can be a clear road to pass you, but they don't!! For...

    Oil leak

First thing I would do is to try to clean as much oil off as you can. Maybe a can of gunk cleaner and spray it off with a garden hose. Take it for a short ride and park it. Cardboard underneath gives you a clean surface to try to identify the leak area. I had a very similar issue on my coupe...

    Overcharging?

Thanks for all the responses to this. My last battery was about 10 years old and I only replaced it because it just didn't have it to crank the engine anymore. I only put water in my battery maybe 1x per year. I understand that the cutout is just that, an on/off switch with no regulation. My amp...

    Overcharging?

I read what I just posted and need to correct some things. It's the contacts on the cutout that I watched close and not re-open. The cutout will "cut in" (contacts close) and the gen will charge. It does not "cut out" (contacts open) and stop charging. If I understand this correctly, "cut in" is...

    Overcharging?

Ok, just sort of an update. The voltage is being measured directly at the battery terminals. I let the battery trickle charge for the last day or so. Checked the battery voltage just as it sat, before starting, and showed 6.6v. This was done with both an analog meter and a digital fluke meter...

    Overcharging?

Got it on charge today. Going to let it charge up for the day. Located an analog meter to try. I was doing some reading on the cutout too. Just have to see what it looks like after a good recharge. Thanks everyone! I'll try to keep ya posted. Happy Easter!

    Overcharging?

Yup, 6 volts, Pos ground. New battery last summer. Everything stock as far as I can tell.

    Overcharging?

The battery was at 8.5 volts after driving for about 20 minutes. Don't know what it started out at (from sitting) but the car cranked right up. If the battery acts like it's own regulator, then maybe it is just weak from sitting. I'll get it out and charged up and recheck it and the generator...

    Overcharging?

Thanks for the reply. The battery was not on a tender. It did fire right up with no issue though. I did replace the battery last summer. The old one just didn't crank it anymore, and was about 10 years old. The only thing that caught my attention was the smell. It's that "ozone" smell. I work...

    Overcharging?

Hi Everyone! It was a beautiful day so I got my coupe out for a little spring drive. Fired right up after sitting all winter. Only went 5 mikes is so and could smell that "charging battery" smell. Went back to the house and put my meter on the battery. It was charging at 8.5volts. Just went thru...

    Sad day

So sorry about your coupe. It was a very nice looking car! They always say it could have been worse, and if you think about it, I guess it could have. I know I'm really attached to my little Ford. I would probably be beside myself if anything happened to it. I hope it all works out for you in...

Dent and crease removal with MAPP gas?

Have to agree with Kevin in NJ here. As a kid growing up I spent lots of time with an old time body repair man. This guy really made it look easy. I remember him telling me to work out dents like this slowly. Time spent carefully with a hammer and dolly could nearly clean that up. Just take your...
