That’s great to know! Does he just lubricate it (seems like one can do that themselves) or do you know if he did something extra? Mine struggle and I did clean and lube them but I didn’t go with the common recommendation of trans lube and used a lithium grease which in restrospect was too thick.
Bumping this…
I’ve gone through the steps outlined in the manual. I have the right manual. The manual does not describe my situation.
My pressurize rise is exactly as it ought to be however, the Maximum pressure seems to be incorrect. Pressures are not high enough in reverse and too high and...
I do have it - I mentioned I've gone thru A-F (pressure regulation) now from the troubleshooting section in the manual and just posted pressure results.
I'd be curious what folks think of the results. If max pressure is a little high in Dr and a little low in Reverse, will bending the internal...
Ran the pressure test. Gauge needle bounces all over the place ( antique) but followed procedure. Numbers seem close considering the throttle lever has a slight bend, not to mention doing this on my back in the street.
In reverse, right around 63-65 psi at 0 degrees. Pressure rise at 3.5...
Dumb question but is there another name for the kickdown lever/ rod? The manual doesn’t use this term at all it’s simply says throttle control rod and manual linkage. I also don’t think my transmission has any vacuum actuated components?
Edit: some googling suggests The throttle control rod is...
COS - I saw your DM but I’m not really a great person to contact regarding value of rebuilt transmissions and I don’t think I’m to the point of buying another one quite yet, but I appreciate the offer.
Regarding glazed bands and drum, that’s a really good suggestion to look at. I don’t suppose...
Oldcarbearing - The first shop you mentioned seems to be parts and not repair services, River city I just heard about from the local Portland auto swap meet so I might look into them, I spoke with a guy who said he’s worked on his cruisimatic along time ago. The other looks to be in San Diego...
Well I won't go and defend it too much, but it worked really well before the rebuild in the forward gears (reverse was getting problematic hence the decision to rebuild it). That's made it really hard to listen to these modern mechanics say it never would have worked well, cuz I know it did...
Hi all not much has happened over the years wrt my fordomatic. I have yet to find a mechanic familiar with the ****** who is also willing the read the manual. If you recall it was rebuilt around 2019 and has never worked right since.it slips. Every mechanic I have taken it to simply performs...
I finallyyyyy got my 55 crown Vic running again. Transmission is working and carb was built (thanks Sal!). No sooner than it’s up and running but I get a pretty good coolant leak. I replaced the hoses ( probably needing doing anyway) but that didn’t fix it. Turns out it’s the heater control...
Might also be simply the wrong sending unit. My 292 had the wrong one installed and so when cold It was literally in the middle of the gauge, and then as it warmed up would always be pegged to the far right. Chalk this up to one or two decade old replacement back before the Internet and parts...
Is there anyone west coast that does carb rebuilds? Mechanic said fuel is leaking thru a worn throttle body, which I assume is not a gasket issue/something I can fix. They won't work on my car/start the engine till this is fixed. Someone in the pacific northwest would be great but I suppose this...
if i understand - you have no working choke? if it starts up fine cold without a choke that suggests to me that its running very rich, which would also mean that once warmed it will not start well is it is the same "too rich" conditions.
Need replacement 1955 Crown Victoria horn ring that says power steering on it.
Also need the interior stainless door trim that goes under the arm rest.
Thanks - Christopher
