Was working on a friend's car (which was running poorly) and noticed that the intake manifold frosted-up when the car was first started. Frost stayed there for quite a while till the engine was good and warm. Thoughts, anyone?

I can jump-start it, and the engine starts and runs fine. Have never driven more than about 45 minutes. After initial start, I can get another start or two. After that, starter begins to turn over very slowly and petty soon kaput. Battery is about 10 years old (have not load tested yet)...
