I am rebuilding an hydrostatic gas guage. I purchased a rebuild kit from Mac's auto parts. There is a 1/8" brass rod, approx. 2" long inside the liquid resevoir, but the rebuild kit is not showing this. Does anyone know the purpose of this rod, or if it's even suppose to be in there?

I have a 1936 Ford 1 1/2 ton dump truck with a hydrostatic gas gauge that appears to be in good condition. I have purchased a re-build kit for it from Mac's. Inside the tube where the red fluid goes there was a copper wire inside that was as long as the tube is deep. The directions I received...
