Interesting transmission Jim Brierley… what bellhousing worked with that? Did you have to make an adapter plate. I have seen transmissions behind model A/B motors using model AA truck bellhousing.
My last question about Babbit opened up a new topic about bellytanks. It seems as if there are a few here on fordbarn who race the V4 class in el mirage and bonneville. My question is with the model A/B motors what have you seen for transmissions?
For my belly tank I have a 4 speed side shift...
I have myself a rulebook... first goal is to make a rolling chassis with engine and trans, then focus on the roll cage and pertinent scta rules.
I finally got around to measuring the crank journals on our model A engine. We know that this will not be race ready... but rather something to get...
Ok. Great info guys appreciate the help.
Looks like I need to take some measurements of the crank and real seal to see if it’s worth moving forward with existing Babbit. I do know that there was brass shims under main caps when I took it apart. I can get back with the measurements soon.
I guess...
Thanks for the reply, I’m assuming that Timesaver is some sort of lapping compound?
Yes. Planning on running the dry lake and eventually Bonneville. Just trying to get built and starting out. Not going to be competitive for records… just the challenge of the build and the process. Thanks!
Quick question about the Babbitt in my model a engine… I took the block apart and all the Babbitt surfaces look good except for the rear main cap. As you can see in the pics. Can the cap be done alone and repaired or do all need to be done and align bored? Does anyone in so cal still do this or...
Good info guys.... so should I measure poundage by the Les Andrews measurement of 2.25 installed height? Should be 60lbs for a mild cam. Shim if needed, then check for coil bind? Sound correct?
Thanks in advance!
I’m running standard head... no OHV. Larger intakes, dual 97’s and mild cam. Should be around 6.25:1 compression. I agree that the shorter spring is a big deal... it really caught my eye. Still need to measure lbs but I know it can’t be the same as the others. Maybe will order a set from...
I recently purchased a new set of modern valves and springs from a reputable company. I installed them for a short duration then removed them because I needed to do some head work prior to moving on. I am now ready to install when I noticed that one spring is shorter than the others by about...
