I had a leak on my steering box that I couldn't stop. When I rebuilt the box at my friends garage I noticed that the washer on the stud that extends into the reservoir was very different from the standard flat washer that I had on mine. He let me use that original washer and voila!... no more...
Steve,
Please let me know how this works out if you do it. I just bought a '54 F100 and can really appreciate how much the steering gear improved between my '31 and '54.

Actually, you guys helped a lot. Ron in Quincy's comment about measuring the gap between the rotor and the contacts in the distributor body was what came to mind when I noticed that the cap was loose. Even though that is not a measurement that I could take on this style distributor cap the same...
Re: No spark to #4 *** PROBLEM SOLVED***
As usual, when I'm stumped it's usually something simple.
As I started putting my original cap back on this morning, I noticed that the cap moved when I pulled the #4 wire off. I grabbed the cap and noticed that I could move it without much effort. I...
Re: No spark to #4
Mike,
It's a round distributor cap and the condenser is on the top plate. (I have a Simmons HC head on this motor and the traditional style distributor doesn't fit)
To check for spark I grounded my screwdriver to the head and touched the shaft to the plug wire. I see spark...
Re: No spark to #4
Thanks guys. I did change the plug, checked the gap, re-timed the engine and checked the points gap. I rotated the cam and the points seemed to open equally on each lobe. This is a newly rebuilt H&M engine so I doubt it's a valve but I'll check the compression. I had the...
My A is running on 3 cylinders. Checked the spark to each plug and nothing at number 4.
Swapped plug wires - no change
Put in spare rotor - no change
Installed spare cap - no change
I'm stumped. Any and all suggestions would be welcome. Thanks
Steve
Thanks guys. I have tightened the plug and checked it a few times with no improvement. It's just weeping and hasn't appreciably changed the oil level in a year. I'm fairly certain it is leaking from the plug but this change will be the test.
I like the idea of swapping the drain and filler...
I'm about to change my transmission fluid. I haven't done that since I bought the car last year. It may not need to be changed but it leaks past the threads of the drain plug. That makes me suspicious that what's in there is due for a change or the wrong viscosity.
I was reading repro of the...
