    Simple engine stand adapter idea

Be careful of Engine Stands which mount to the water neck inlet bolts on the side of the block. This is one of the weakest points on the casting. Almost every block has some cracking in this area. Also the oil pan bolts are very small. I don't use this type motor stand for these reasons. I...

    Consuming Coolant

Running an overdrive under a heavy load (pulling up a mountain) will overheat. I watch my temp gauge, and when I go into O/D, the temp rises as I go faster. If I run at 65 MPH, temp is right at 210. If I back down to 60, temp falls to 180/190, This on a 98+ degree day in Texas. My engine is new...

    Newbie to FB

First I would put a GPS System in to check the true speed. You may be going faster than you think.

newbie from OHIO. having big trouble

:confused:Sure would be nice to have some feedback. Many people have answered the question from many angles. Which ones were investigated or checked and what were the results ? Everyone loves to help the newbie, but really like to have acknowledgement that the suggestions have been read at least.

    Steering Box Adjustment

Nope. You can use Les Andrews book or several articles in Restorer/Model A News. The adjustment is a sequence of events, each building on the former to get a smooth, easy turning box. I spent about 6 hours assembling, adjusting, disassembling and checking tooth mesh/contact to get the proper...

    30/31 Repro Front Fender (Snyder)

 30/31 Repro Front Fender from Snyder's. They warn of not fitting correctly, but I thought that we could fix any fit issues for less labor than fixing the original. I was wrong. Total cost of this fender delivered to me was $425 + $90 Shipping, total $515. Sell for $250. Look over...

Who carries 19-inch Goodrich blackwall tires?

Wallace Wade in Dallas has all or most all of the available tires for the Model A. He is a tire distributor and does not mount tires. Do a Google search on "Wallace Wade" and his web site will be identified. Blackwall Goodyears are $160 each with tubes for $16.95, if I remember correctly.

Needed, Downdraft Manifold for three bolt carb.

I need a downdraft manifold with a three bolt Ford V8 carb flange for a Model A. Also would like a cast performance exhaust manifold or perhaps a tube exhaust. :o

    Brumfield Standard Head

I need a Brumfield Standard head to complete my touring engine. I sent a message to Larry and he says that he is not building any until the economy improves. If anyone has one they are not using please let me know. I really prefer a used unit because the material has been anealed by multiple...

    '31 Indented Firewall Gas Valve

I always turn the gas valve off on all of my cars. The '31 indented firewall car is a pain. The car has 2 cut off valves under the hood. Every time I park the car the second inline valve leaks a few drops. If I make sure that the firewall valve is good and test it for no leaks over a period...

New...Looking to Piece an "A" Together

The suggestion to buy s running car instead of "piecing one together" is the best advice you will ever receive relative to Model A's. (or any other project car). I am doing a "resto-mod" on a running, unrestored '30 coupe. As I dis-assembled the car I was amazed how good it was. A quick paint...

    NEW A Engine

I have used high strength steel precision hollow close fit bushings, line to line fit between the cap and rod body and close fit to the rod bolt on high HP aluminum rods with good results. If I remember correctly, several OEM used this method years ago. The modern method is "cracked rods" which...

    '31 with "B" engine knock

Update on troubleshooting. By taking the timing pin and pushing in the hole with the engine running I can check the cam position. When the engine is speeded up, the cam moves forward about 3/16". Since this is a new rebuild with few miles, I think I may have a oil pump gear problem like others...

    Model A Air conditioning

Vintage Air in San Antonio and Old Car Products in Ft Worth both make products specifically for your application. I used one in a 30 Tudor w/small block and the A/C evaporater mounted behind the dash where the gas tank once resided. Since you already have the condenser, the cost of the mod goes...
