Late flathead heads on 59 block

Thanks, @Ronnieroadster. That was my assumption, but wasn't 100% positive. I'm gonna have to find another decent 46-48 flatty for these. Dad's deuce sedan has been blown apart since '61, and I was planning on using the '58 283 he had bought for it, but these heads may have changed up that plan.

Late flathead heads on 59 block

I recently was gifted this set of heads from the estate of one of my dad's best friends. I had known OF them, but had never seen them, but had asked him to sell them to me for as long as I have known about them. I know you can run late heads on a 38-48 block with modifying the head to block a...

    Too much radiator pressure

Yeah, that's pretty much the question I was initially looking for an answer for, but I threw out more info that caused more questions. After a closer inspection of the head, I think what I am seeing on the lower edge of it is oil drips from the return line that has a little seepage on it...

    Too much radiator pressure

No, that flathead has always ran cool. The aluminum radiator came with the 16lb. I bought the 7lb because it was the first one that came up on the list. It appears that O'Reilly has the 7004, which is a 4lb. I may pick that up tomorrow and roll with it. No, I don't have a recovery tank on...

    Too much radiator pressure

It is a late model deep cap. Murray 7007 is what I bought this morning to replace the 16lb.

    Too much radiator pressure

Hey Fellas, Long time since I have visited the Ford Barn, but I have a quick question regarding my latest '40 Ford project. My "beater" panel truck has the '40 Flathead motor from my '40 stake truck. Because the stock radiator was in really bad shape, and trying to throw this thing together...

'40 Ford coupe rear windshield seals

Kube, I put my rear windows in 20 years ago with Carpenter rubber and they were too big that long ago. One would think that they would have corrected the problem since then. I've been pulling out my "street rod" tinted glass and putting the original glass back in, lamination separations and...

    Porters or Smithy's ?

I was cheap and went with a set of Walker Glasspack Mufflers - 24041, on my '40 stake truck, with 1 3/4" tailpipes. After about 5000 miles, I'm still quite pleased. I don't have any drone going down the highway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDXwFNjfccI

OLD Offy heads - 18 mm Spark Plugs hitting valves

Walt, There's only one with steel insert. It's "#2. The others are threads in the aluminum heads. The biggest issue that I had with the "new" plugs is that that I don't own a 7/8" long well socket or spark plug wrench. I snugged them down finger tight, then used a short socket and a channel...

OLD Offy heads - 18 mm Spark Plugs hitting valves

Well...chalk that up for me not looking at the head and just taking the plug up to the store to get the same thing that was in it. Come to find out, after looking at it, and comparing other plugs on Autolite's website, I ran up to O'Reilly and picked up a set of 386 plugs, with the crush...

OLD Offy heads - 18 mm Spark Plugs hitting valves

That is what was in it. I looked at it, this afternoon, and think that I should be able to use some flat crush washer style. Still on the hunt for the right part number to compare with.

OLD Offy heads - 18 mm Spark Plugs hitting valves

I have been monkeying around with my "spare" flathead, preparing to fire it yesterday. It's a 59 block, with a 3 3/8" bore and 4" stroke, and a small lift cam of about .3125 lift. Wearing an OLD set of Offy 400 heads, with an 18mm thread size. Bought a new set of Autolite 46 plugs, with a...

    Wiring diagram

My favorite part of that wiring diagram is the "Traffic Beam" and "Country Beam" designation for what we normally now refer to as "hi and low" beams.
