Tie Rod Questions / Alignment Woes

Bruce, I will do some more measuring tonight to determine axle straightness. Just wondering though, could someone have replaced the tie rod ends with some that would have the same thread diameter and pitch, but a longer threaded section - hence the bottoming out before proper adjustment...

Tie Rod Questions / Alignment Woes

Greetings - hoping I can find answers to a couple questions... I have a '41 pickup that I've pieced together from swap meet parts. The chassis is from a '39 Sedan. I've driven it infrequently over the past few years as I work through updates and repairs. The alignment has always been a bit...

    rustoleum gloss black spray cans

I've had extremely good luck with John Deere spray paint. It's a Valspar product and seems to cure well. In fact, I painted my entire Tudor with less than a case of gloss black when my wife asked if I could make the car "shiny" for our wedding photos. While it isn't a show car by any means, it...

    Tricks to locate TDC

This is the type of attitude that makes me hesitant to post replies. The original poster stated that he did not currently have a hand crank and was unable to get the timing pin to drop in. Not knowing why the pin won't drop, I provided a solution to him. This is a solution that carries over...

    Tricks to locate TDC

If you have a helper, you can jack up one rear wheel and have the helper slowly turn the wheel with the transmission in gear to turn the engine over. It's less effort and struggling than pushing the car back and forth. Now - to find TDC... Install a pointer wire on a front timing cover bolt...

    Hand Cranking the Model A

On the topic of cranking: I recently purchased a fairly complete chassis with a stuck engine. Wanted to use the hand crank while working the engine loose. I grabbed the crank from my '30 Tudor and found it wouldn't fit through the crank bearing on the front crossmember. The chassis looks to be...

    Mac's "brake buddy" problems???

Russell, It's the board with the steps cut in it. The included directions refer to it as a "brake buddy" but I don't think it is called that in the catalog. Sorry for the confusion.

    Mac's "brake buddy" problems???

Pedal travel on my Tudor is getting to the point that it's probably time for some adjustment. I ordered the " brake buddy" tool from Mac's to make the job a little easier. I decided to give it a trial fit tonight and found it to be a bit too long at its shortest setting. The reference line is a...

    Model A Exhaust/Muffler Options

I believe mine is for a Farmall A. It was the correct inlet size. Definitely doesn't have the original model a sound, but a nice mellow tone that is a bit different than a cherry bomb. I'm considering adding a tailpipe to see how it affects the sound.

    Stripped Connecting Rod?

I know this is a very old thread, but I was wondering what the outcome of Tom's brazing fix was. I just found a stripped stud on my #3 rod and am weighing my options. I would like to keep my current engine in service until I can get my rebabbited spare put together.

    Taller Rear Tires

So, it sounds like the 550/600s are a fairly common upgrade. I agree that they do look good in the posted pictures. Thank you for that. Looks like they give a 2" increase in dia and 0.8" in tread width over original. I see that Coker also offers a 650 tire but has no specs listed for it...

    Taller Rear Tires

Thanks Purdy! To those who suggested the HAMB, I posted my question there also. I just thought that, while the question is not specific to a 100% correctly restored Model A, Ford Barners would have more insight on the 19" A wheels than the rodders on the HAMB would. And for those who may fear...

    Taller Rear Tires

I have seen quite a few driver quality A's running 16" '35 wheels with taller rear tire sizes. Has anyone tried a larger size tire on the original 19" wheels. If so, what size did you run? 700-19? 750-19? What is possible with the narrow rim width? Thanks!

    Wheel Swap Help

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and opinions. Sounds like I will have to try it out for myself and see if my wheels seat properly and if I have enough stud length. If anyone else would like to share their experience on this topic, please feel free to chime in!!! Thanks again -Brian

    Wheel Swap Help

Anybody? Certainly someone on here has done this before. I'm not looking to build a hot rod. Just change the look of the car a bit depending on my mood.
