    Stromberg 48s or 97s?

Thanks, Tim. Do you happen to know the jetting on his carbs? I agree, I don't want a lean mixture on my engine, neither do I want to over-jet it.

    Stromberg 48s or 97s?

I have a pair of freshly-built Stromberg 48s and a fresh pair of 97s. I'd appreciate advice from anyone with experience running either set on an engine like mine: 149 cfm B&M blower, engine bored & stroked to approx. 284 cid. 8:1 compression, forged pistons. Current components of 48s: #49...

    Rad hose blows off

19Fordy, I had headwork done, opening chambers to 77cc's. I suspect the individual clamped the head in a vise or other device to hold it while he did his work. We're certainly not going to try squeezing it back! Grinding it down to round it and to remove taper, then sleeve it back to spec. Doing...

    Rad hose blows off

Udate: I removed head, was able to get closer look at outlet. It appears to have been misshapen by some previous owner or shop putting the outlet part in a vise, as the narrowed sections were directly opposite each other. Presently, we're looking at several options to correct this, including...

    Rad hose blows off

As I mentioned earlier, even when I was using the stock rad with zero cap pressure, I was getting minor leakage where bottom of hose attaches to the head. Yesterday I examined outlet carefully and it is noticeably out of round in 2 places around the circumference. These areas won't permit the...

    Rad hose blows off

The Navarro heads are vintage, probably 1950's - 60's. A tad past warranty period. I opened them to 76cc's to help flow for blower. The 11 lb. cap raises boiling point by 33 degrees (thanks glennpm) to 245. I'm OK with that. I'm going to carefully measure the outer circumference of the neck both...

    Rad hose blows off

No luck. Cleaned surfaces. applied Indian Head, allowed to become sticky, slid hose onto head, left overnight, clamped with spring-type premium clamp next morning. 11 lb. cap from NAPA. Hose blew off after about 3 minutes of running. Remembered that there was minor leakage when stock '37 rad...

    Rad hose blows off

OK. Switched to plastic hose, Tried Indian Head, let it set overnight to grip. Put aircraft-style clamp on in the morning. Tightened it, fired up engine, off she blew. Head is Navarro, identical to its mate on the other side, which never blows, even without Indian Head. So problem is clearly...

    Rad hose blows off

1.3 equals 18psi. And I'm wondering why my hose blows? I need high boiling point but not hose blow. I need a cap around 8-10 lbs 2.25 in dia. Can anyone help?

    Rad hose blows off

Well, inserting thermostat didn't work. Hose blew off again. Question: rad cap is stamped 1.3. Is this metric for pressure rating? What is this in pounds? Thinking cap has too much. I'm also change clamps to constant-pressure type. More to follow. Thanks again.

    Rad hose blows off

Thanks again, guys. I'm going to insert thermostat, use rad hose gasket sealant, use same clamp as before, and fire it up. My thought is, the upward water pressure will be greatly reduced with the addition of the thermostat, and may prevent hose from blowing off again. Theory being, try the...

    Rad hose blows off

I installed a new aluminum rad in my 37 with 284 cid blown 59A. When I first fired it up, the driver's side upper rad hose attached to Navarro head outlet (without sealant) blew off after a few minutes. I got scalded with deionized water I'm using for coolant. I then coated inside of hose part...
