OK then. You guys have totally knocked the "pickiness" right out of me. On this issue anyway.
That last post is very informative. Had no idea before this point.
Thanks to all who contributed.
My apologies to Pete for shorting him an "e" in his User Name.
That's a lot of info in the two articles that you attached. It will take me a while to get thru all of that.
It looks like the bottom line is that I need to go with the 239 gaskets. I would have liked to hear more on the coolant...
Thanks for the input so far. I'm sort of picky, so please bear with me.
Please see the attached photos. The 5060 file is a photo of the 505C gasket from Best Gasket that is for the original 3-1/16 inch bore 24 stud engine (38-42 85-90 HP).
The 5062 file is a photo of the 511C gasket from...
I have a 1940 Ford ForDor Deluxe with the 221 cu. in. 24 stud V8 engine.
The engine is at the machine shop now. The cylinders have been bored out from the stock 3-1/16 in. bore (sleeved to that dimension) to 3-3/16 in.
I purchased a Best Gasket Engine Rebuilding Set (RS 505 C) from CW Moss...
I’m in the process of rebuilding the stock engine in my 40 Ford ForDor Deluxe. I’m having trouble finding new rubber hoses for the oil filter housing. I’ve struck out at two of the possible hose fabricators locally but have one more to check with. I’m looking for any suggestions as far as...
I’m starting a rebuild on the engine from my 1940 Ford ForDor Deluxe. It was my grandfather’s daily driver up until he passed in 1967, when I inherited it. I’m doing a partial restoration, trying to keep it as original as possible. I have a machine shop lined up for what might be needed along...
John R., Thanks for reminding me. I had found that listing at the Fabulous Fords web site early in my search for the product, but failed to leave my contact info with them. I emailed them with a request to notify me if and when they ever have it available. Thanks again.
Please keep the suggestions coming. I’m in touch with Tom regarding what he might have available, and I’m intrigued by the suggested use of roofing paper. But there may be others looking for what I’m looking for that can benefit from any leads or suggestions that might be offered up. I will...
Alan, I saw that product. But it’s for the firewall, not for under the rear carpets, rear seat and trunk area. See my original post for specifics. Thanks though. I’m still hoping I can find some of the right material out there somewhere.
TJ, I did try Bob Drake. They confirmed that they discontinued carrying that material 5 years ago. Seems like I'm always a bit late. Need to order things when I first think of them rather than later when they are no longer available.
Thanks, Nate, for the lead, but you have mistaken me for someone who is looking for a cool/quiet ride. I'm trying to maintain the originality of the car. It was my grandpa's daily driver for 27 years. I'm the second owner. We liked it hot and noisy. :)
I can find lots of that "newfangled"...
I'm trying to keep my 1940 Ford ForDor DeLuxe as original as possible during my restoration. I've searched many of the usual restoration supplier's catalogs for the original type of Waffle Pattern Body Insulation, but the ones that carried the product in the past either no longer list it or...
Thanks for the response and wisdom shared, Will D and Elrond.
Yes I did pay attention to the gasket thicknesses and replaced with same. I also took gear lash measurements after I removed the drive shaft housing, and before I took off the end bells. Gear lash was within the spec and the gears...
I'm back.
Been a little busy on my 1940 Ford ForDor Deluxe since the last posts back in 2018. I completed refurbishing the rear end assembly with new seals, gaskets, brake cylinders shoes and lines. Also new paint. Left the differential gears and bearings alone.
Im presently working on...
