    Piston to Head clearance

Hi Guys I am rebuilding a 59A engine (my 1st time) and have had the block bored to .125 over and decked. I have read on FB many times that the piston to head clearance should be 40 thou, but I'm not sure if this is measured with or without the gasket in place. Looking at the engine I think...

    1939 Temp gauge fitting

I am looking to fit a mechanical temperature gauge in a 1939 Tudor with a 59A motor. Can any one tell me what size / thread the bush is that the sender unit screws into and what size the thread into the head is. Also where I could possibly buy one. Thanks.

    1934 Steering box

A friend has a left hand drive 1934 Tudor and is looking to improve the steering as it is very hard to drive particularly with radial tires. He has had the box fully rebuilt with all new internals but is still not happy with it. We have heard that an F1 box can be fitted but wondered if this...

    1940 Steering box

Further to the above post I have installed a new roller, worm, bearings, bush etc and have adjusted the free play in accordance with the instructions laid out on Van Pelts site. With it clamped in the vice, I have the adjustment so there is virtually no free play between the steering shaft and...

    1940 Steering box

Quote. "I saw a 40 box recently where a washer had been slipped on to the end of the shaft and welded in place. The weld was crap and had broken allowing the shaft to slide out of the wheel and jamb against the steering box housing. OK if you want to just turn in one direction all of the time."...

    1940 Steering box

Maybe I should re phrase that and ask How do you stop the pin coming out of the cross shaft? I have looked on Van Pelts site and others regarding rebuilding a steering box but have not found anything regarding this matter. Should I try to pin it or weld it or ?

    1940 Steering box

When replacing the roller wheel in a 1940 Ford steering box how do you secure the wheel shaft in position to stop it moving and coming out of the roller shaft? Thanks

    1947 convertible radio antenna

You could possibly contact C & G Ford Parts or one of the other suppliers and tell them what you are doing and ask if they could send you a copy of the installation instructions so you can see how it is put together...

    11 inch clutch flywheel question

Thanks for the replys. Is it just the pressure plate that is heavier (I can see the one I've got is heavier than a 10") or is the flywheel heavier too?

    11 inch clutch flywheel question

I have a 1940 81A engine with a flywheel which is possibly not original as it has only ever been fitted with an 11 inch clutch and pressure plate. The question is, would it have come from a later truck or similar or did they fit 11 inch clutches in 1940 and also would the flywheel be heavier...

    '47 hood opening

Another option is to add an additional steel rod prop which folds down along the inner fender as a PO did on my 47 Mercury. These cars are even worse than the Fords as the hood is longer and therefore weighs more.

    Mystery Engine Part

Great info guys. I compared it to a starter spring and that definately where it has come from. I had the engine on a stand and when I levered the sump off it twisted away from me and I didn't see where this bit came from but I heard it hit the concrete floor. It was covered in black oil...

    Mystery Engine Part

It could be . It has a slight twist in it but it is a perfect fit on the crank snout. It also appears like it had a small keyway type cut out each side where it has broken. I'll have a look at the starter tomorrow. thanks
