I have a ‘47 half ton PU with 6V +ground. The fuel and oil pressure gauges work intermittently. I really don’t want to hang aftermarket gauges on this truck. Any advice on where to start diagnostics? Also any recommendations for an aftermarket tach?

Thanks Glenn. I suppose that’s a possibility. It’s been converted to an open driveshaft (I’m guessing sometime in the ‘90’s) but it could have been sloshing around in there for all that time.

I just changed the transmission fluid in my ‘47 3 spd. Along with the 90 weight out came something that looked like a shot or two of grease. Any ideas as to what that was (the transmission has been functioning fine for the 6 months that I’ve owned the vehicle).

I doubt it’s wheel/tire related as there is no vibration at low speeds and seems to be more dependent on engine RPM; at shift points and above 45 mph in third. No tach installed at this time however by my calculations 275 60 15 tires with a 4:11 gear would produce a driveshaft rotation in the...

Sounds like a plan. I’m going to drop the driveshaft and change u joints at the same time I do the trans mount. If that doesn’t do it I’ll have the driveshaft balanced.

Thanks. Logical diagnostic is exactly what I need. It sure sounds like transmission but to be honest I haven’t tried to go faster than the vibration start point because it shakes so bad. I guess I’ll know more when the new mount arrives. BTW I’d like to see some picks of that 1 ton project.

OK, thanks guys, that gives me a good place to start. Think I’ll still change ****** mount as it looks pretty rough. Is there a torque spec?
