This is how I do it.
Many shafts are too low, causing the rotor to be too low from the contacts in the cap and the rubbing block will be at the top of the cam.
Many times I need to put a fiber washer and a thin metal washer at the top to raise the shaft up to make the rotor centered with the...
Look at the pictures above.
The oval cable will have ends crimped on both ends, and the square will measure from .120" to .125" or about 1/8".
The round cable will not have any ends on it and is simply squeezed to make it square. the square end will measure about .100"
The hole in the gear is...
sounds like you are trying to use the wrong cable.
The oval speedometer cable end is larger than most other cables, Most universal replacement cables will be too small and slip.
I use heat and have never had to drill out a secondary well.
I heat all around the well until bright red then I let it air cool until the red goes away then I put water on it. The wells will come out very easy without any damage to the screwdriver slot or the well and can be reused after...

All the reproduction handles that I have seen are made of pot metal and cannot be taken apart without breaking them. Also they use a different key blank so your original ignition key will not fit in the handle.
Your inner cable should stick out on the upper end about 1/8 inch, and should go past the bottom of the outer housing about 1 inch.
All reproduction cables are not the same length and some will not work with some outer housings
If your inner cable is too short, the tab could have been barely...
Remove your inner cable from the outer cable and put the bottom end into the gear, how far will it go in, is the tab broke off, will it go in far enough for the tab to properly enter the slot. We are not sure if you need a nail yet.
There are two different gear assemblies or turtles. Yours should have a round hole with a slot, and the bottom end of your cable should have a round end with a tab. Check to see if it will go in the gear assembly properly. The other 30-31 type has a square hole, Make sure you have the correct...
Pull the inner cable out and look at it, it should pull out easy from the speedometer end. Sounds like it might be broke. Also take the bottom end off and inspect it, if you still don't see anything wrong take the turtle off and inspect.
