This is doing it the hard way and the wrong way! The snap ring DOES NOT sit in a channel or groove. The locking plate is removed by screwing to 1/4-20 bolts into the threaded holes on the plate (at top and bottom in this photo). The locking plate/snap ring assembly is just pulled out>
