Oil 10W30 ????

Purdy it's hard pressed to find straight weight 30 detergent oil,,,, only place I've seen it in Illinois is at the John Deere dealerships. Lots of old tractors still in use that need it. Will use it in my next oil change.

John Deere's prices on filters-oil-batteries etc. really aren't all that bad. Good parts too. Keep them in mind when you're hunting parts.

Really ? Hmmm, wonder why. Its still easy to get here.

JD's "Corn head" Grease seems to get high marks from some people here too. I've never used it myself, but some guys like it.

I used Havoline 30 weight high detergent in my 31 tudor for years. I use to buy it by the case at Walmart and it has got near impossible to find now. I now mostly use the Walmart brand 20w50 in all of mine . . I figured the 20w would be just right for cold starts and winter use and that the 50 would be good for the old engines. The 20w50 is running pretty clean between oil changes just like the Havoline did so I am happy .

It would seem like the weight of oil would depend on where you live and what time o year it is. In other words, in cold weather it would seem like you would want to use a thinner oil. Hot weather, a heaver oil. But again that is just my idea>

I agree, Ford recommended 20 weight for winter and 40 weight for summer use . Back in the day I doubt that they had multi weight oils like we do today. I've often looked for 20w40 but have never found any. I figured that 20w50 was close enough for an old engine. I figure the thicker weight will help cushion the bearings and piston skirts for quieter operation and good high temp lubrication. Just my thoughts, may be wrong but seems to work purdy good for me .
