Canadian Ford Heads

No problem at all sharing Gene. That is how information is gained and spread. I think you are right in that I mis-read the casting number on the 46 truck block. It is most likely a C59 .
Still wondering if anybody else has ever seen a block stamped with "49" at the left front top between head and intake manifold like my 39 Deluxe has. Rebuilder's tag is dated 1952 so I am wondering if they rebuilt a 49 block and this is what my car has.

RalphG; 1949 block is late flathead 8ba (US 48-53) 48-54 Canada.
No integral bell housing --bolt in adapter tween engine
and trans. No known records kept on machinist's stamps on
48 and earlier with integral bell hsg.
Rebuild tag is on bell, so 48 or earlier , not late flathead.
How's the farm work going?
More later

No Gene, the 39 engine (the driver) has the rebuild tag on the right front deck in front of the head dated 52 and the stamp 49 is up on the left top of block between head and manifold. I will have to check but pretty sure this 39 has the integral bell housing. I guess if I could get in close enough to clean up and view the top of said bell housing I could see the actual casting number.
Farm work? At a standstill in the fields due to light rain and wet snow. So I have more time to play with the flatheads . Might pull the 52 Merc out of the trees and re locate it if the sun comes out.

RalphG; I finally figured out how you started this thread with my
reply to a post on your "My 39 Ford" thread.

1952 FMC of Canada Rebuild tag on RalphG's engine in his 1939 Ford.
Can one tell if this is a pre war 81a block or could it be a post war
C51A (both 221ci ) . With out disassembly?
It has C7RA-A heads--post war C59, I understand.
What are part #s 6199 (C31A F ), 6303 ? (crankshaft? or main
bearing) size J--- for engine 3?1T or 5?1T ?
6211 rod size J ok but again for 3?1A or 5?1A engine application?
6331 & 6333 are main bearings for 221ci 81A
Code C11A = Canadian 1941 221?
What ya think ?
