have put 5 gallons in now, fitted new inline filter, removed feed from pump it sucked up from a jar no probs and primed the carb, engine fired ok and ran for 15/20 secs fair length of hose to filter, then died would have thought would have sucked fuel thru, removed feed to filter still cannot syphon any fuel up with a inline hand pump, any ideas? no air so cannot pressure tank. thanks

Make sure the connection at the gas tank to fuel tank is
clear and not kinked, even a little. Also check hose from fuel
line to fuel pump that it is not real soft or slightly kinked. When fuel
pump starts pumping , hose could be closing off your fuel supply.

God luck!

theres definietley a blockage or what you described, i borrowed an industrial syphon pump it would suck nothing from tank, you cannot blow back into tank with cap removed either its just solid.

Can you disconnect the fuel line at each of its segments and blow air thru each section of fuel line -starting with the front of the car? But first, disconnect the fuel line fitting at the gas tank and poke a metal rod thru the tank fitting to see if a piece of rust or something is blocking the opening thereby inhibiting fuel flow from the tank.

Had a similar experience with a truck.Replaced ALL the fuel line cxcept for a three foot piece of 3/8 inch copper tubing. It was plugged!Could you be having a similar problem? James

gonna connect a battery run tyre pump to fuel line, no power at garage! see if it will blow thru back to tank with cap of see if can here bubbling, if not then disconnect from tank and go back from there, tomorrow thou.

there is copper pipe before filter see if i can run a wire down, thx

now is the time to go to harbour frieght and buy your self one of there cheaper compressors, dont get an oil less one, get a piston type pump compressor, if your going to continue to work on these old cars you need three major tools, a compressor, a welding and cutting torch and a welder, preferably a wire fed one capable of using fluxed and unfluxed wire, with out those tools its like shoveling **** against the tide with a spoon

ford1, look at his location. He may not as lucky as we are(ha ha) with the stores of harbour freight. .... 1936coupe I've had to blow out (mouth, just don't suck)my 39ford several times and that would at least get me home. It doesn't take much to plug up a 1/4" line. Now take a big deep breath and BLOW!! cough, cough, spit it out, cough cough... You got it. Good Luck

If you've had backfiring while trying to start it you could havel blown the power valve in the carb. Been there done that.

If it still will not run for a can of gas for more then 20 seconds, and there is gas in carb.If you are 12 volts make sure you have a 12 volt coil and the correct resister.
