warm engine does not start??

Hi,

I always find that if my engine is warm (after driving some miles) 62 degrees weather,

it will not start again, I have to wait and using the starter motor 15 - 30 times.

Doesn`t matter which position the trottle and spark and choke have.

carburator is rebuild tiliston model x.

Some people say the petrol gets to hot and gassed???

Cold start - no problem

Any ideas?

On warm re-starts, I have the best luck by cranking with the throttle WIDE OPEN & let it do a "ROAR", to "clean it out"!

one thing that might be wrong, coil gets hot and wont fire, put your hand on it, if you cant hold it there I would try another coil, as was said, check spark to a plug when it wont start, seeing that the carb is an updraft I wouldn't think it was flooding the engine from boiling the fuel, also the tank is above the carb so it cant be dry causing a hard start because of an empty carb

BillW is correct on this... As a model A newbie, I found it some times harder to start a warm engine.. I learned with my car and warm, a 1/4 GAV and no chock works. If not like Bill said open the throttle and she should be off and going if all things are working normally.

My thoughts also. An intermittent coil is frustrating. What happens is the coil get hot, expands internally and shorts out the secondary winding. Cools down and the short is gone.

I experienced an intermittent coil.

Hi all,

thanks for your help.

I am using an electronic ignition kit on my car (i did that with all american classic cars and I had never any problems it worked great)

I checked the spark right after the engine turned off and won`t start again. Spark was there. The coil was not very hot, I could hold it in the hand.

But the coil is new, but has small dips, maybe that could be a reason?

The tilliston model x carb is an updraft carb I think?? As I researched it is a good running aftermarket carb for Model a.

I will check further with your informations.

I've had that happen, replaced the 1932 coil with new and bam no more problems.
