Installing a new core in a 35/36 radiator

Has anybody had a new core put in their 35/36 ford car radiator. I was wondering if the radiator shop had much of a problem finding a core and installing it. The top and bottom plates on the core appear to be flat and perpendicular but it’s hard to tell. I know the top plate on a 34 is bent and at an angle to the bottom plate..

I just had a 1935 radiator recored here in California. He had no problem ordering a core and had it ready in 2 working days. The bad part...and it was real bad...is that it cost me $600.19!!!! Hell, the whole car was $495 brand new! I am still upset about it. But it does look great......Matt in Alameda

I had my 36 pass recored 4 yrs ago. As you know pass ones have that big overhang top tank. A new bottom of the TOP tank had to be fabricated as original was unuseable, has the big dimple for the fan blades on it.What was a $450 job turned out to be a $700 one. 35's are diff i think as far as the top tank. hope this helps.ken ct.:)

Although I have a 35, I always use the 36 top tank because it holds more coolant. If you are getting a radiator recored for a 35, to look like original, but aren't 100% purist, might I recommend you use the 35 bottom tank and bracketry, along with the larger 36 top tank? You'll end up with an excellent cooling system. If its going into a 36 use 36 top and bottom tanks/ bracketry. Then just run the overflow into a catchcan, ensure the rad cap seals and you'll never experience cooling problems or loss of coolant. Brian

35 fords had two style radators the early one had a smaller tank on top then the later one. whitch had a larger top tank they also had two type of fender aprons. early no lovers late had lovers. if you are not a purest buy a corba rad by walker its proulby cheaper than a recore & its brand new fits right & works beter than a stock rad & its presurerized which is a big plus. j.m.o

For the ones of you that had yours recored, did they manage to get it back assemble alright as far as height. It looks like to me if the height is not maintained correctly the front end sheet metal will not fit right.

Mine is exactly the same dimensions after the recore. The only thing different is that the recore is quite a bit lighter in weight even though he promised that it was a copper recore. So the guy got copper salvage on the old core on top of my $600.19!!!!! Matt in Alameda

There is a shop named BEKO in Concord Ca that can recore for you. He manufactures cores for many Norcal radiator shops and has done many jobs for me and my EV8 friends. Always perfect, always professional. I wouldnt go anywhere else...
