Need advise on open car wind wings attachment

I'm playing and tinkering with my newly accuired 31 A Deluxe Phaeton. I noticed one of the studs going into the windshield frame, that holds the wind wing clamp was pulled out. I have not been able to attach it to its receiving nut, inside of the windshield frame. Does the windshield frame have a removeable piece on the inside edge, to gain access to the bolts on the inside. I see there appears to be such a piece, but I haven't had a change to really look at it that closely. Also any tips on how to remont the glass to the clamps, other than the rubbers and tape? Glad to be back on the Ford Barn.

your wind wings do not attach to the windshield frame. they are attached to the stanchions that holds the windshield frame. that being said there is no easy access on the stanchions the inner liner is welded to the outer cover. also the reproduction brackets have a stud in them if so take it out and screw it into the stanchion first, you could put a little super glue on the threads to hold it in place. when mounting the glass use glass bedding tape and super glue.

Don't rely on the tape that comes with wind wing hardware kits. As mentioned, get some professional glass bedding tape from a commercial glass firm.

Actually, buy the correct clamps and modify the bracket to hold the original style rubber and you will never worry with them again.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I do see a bolt in the stantion, but I just can't seem to get it started on the bracket stud. Seems like a simple fix is giving me fits.

I too have a newly acquired 31 Deluxe Phaeton. If this is still and open issue, could you post a photo of exactly what you are trying to resolve and I can compare to my car.

I had lots of trouble holding the glass in the clamps on the windwings until someone on here told me to drill holes in the glass and use a small dowel pin to hold them in place. I had tried super glue and everything else till I done the drilling and pining.

Gold Digger, I solved the problem of the glass coming loose by putting it on the shelf and using a couple of pieces of Perspex. the much lighter weight means the clamps have a chance of holding it. Several thousand miles of rough, corrugated dirt roads later, they are still there just fine.

I guess this begs the question, why not just do it correctly the first time?

I believe Allen at A&L is now stocking the correct shaped clamp (already correctly plated!), ...and Snyders has the proper authentically-shaped rubber that does not slip. A tiny modification to the Vintique wind-wing kit is all it takes to make them secure just like they were originally!

I have some old Vintique clamps that I filled with J B Weld in order to create a flat surface. Then glued the rubber to that so there is a large flat surface facing the glass and not just the thin rim on the clamp. I have not yet put the wings on the car to see if it works. I would use an adhesive between the rubber and the glass, of course.

Again Richard, remove that JB Weld and enlarge the cavity area by a small amount where the original-type rubber slips into the cavity. Click HERE to see what that rubber piece is supposed to look like. Then if you are using Vintique units that are chrome-plated, order THESE bracket clamps from them also. If you want those bracket clamps to be made out of brass and correctly Nickel-plated, order them from A&L. I promise it is just that easy ...no adhesive necessary and you don't need to worry about them falling off again.
