Brake Pedal Return Issue

i use a screen door spring on my pedal with just enough tension to return the pedal to normal position...works fine...

If you enlarge any holes, make it the mounting holes ON THE SWITCH. You know the frame has the correct holes, so you don't want to mess up a good original part to make a poor repro part fit.

When I said I'd enlarge the holes I ment the small ones on the switch that the rod passes through to actuate the tail light. Thanks for the heads up though, I wouldnt want to screw up the mounting holes in the frame.

I also had problems with the poorly made repro brake switches. After replacing it for the third time I purchased one made by A&L Parts Specialties, telephone 860-693-0112. They maunfacture their own brake light switch which has brass bushings and it is bullet proof. Make sure you ask for the good one (around $40) as they also sell the cheap repro switch.

If I cant get this el-cheapo switch to work properly I'll give them a call. Do they have a website?

I recommend you try using the brake pedal return spring from Snyders, part# A-2455-ACC, telephone 888-262-5172.

My new Snyder's catalog just arrived this morning and I did see that spring set-up, I'll either order one from Snyder's or try and rig something up on my own..

Has Anybody Put This Brake Peddel Pull Back Spring On There 31 ?
If So Did You Hook It To The The Motor Mount Bracket ?
I Have One On The Car BUT Its In The Wrong Place.

If all the moving parts are oiled and greased, that spring shouldn't be needed. If you use repro brake rod springs, I've had to bend most of them for more pressure. Many don't even contact the bump on the rod until I bend them. The fronts mount to the front side of the bracket, and the rears mount on the rear side of the mounting bracket.

Harley03joe: Is your car equipped with float-a-mount motor mounts??

Paul in CT

Well I'm New To This float-a-mount motor mounts ?
Look Over The Pictures And You Tell Me Ok :)
Looks Like All I Have To Do Is Dril A Hole In The Lower Part Of The Mount
Thanks

During your installation you didn't by any chance catch the short brake rod on the end of the brake light switch and bend it causing it to jam in the part return position? I am speaking from experience!!!!!

THIS IS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH I NOW HAVE

I had a two fold problem with the brakes on my '29 PU. First the switch was broke and not making contact to complete the brake circuit and second the peddle would not return far enough.

I installed a new brake switch and installed a spring from the peddle arm to the frame.

Like What I Did Right ?

I have the exact same brake light switch ('30/'31) my switch is original rebuilt and words flawlessly.
I also rebuilt EVERY PART of my mechanical system...and still felt the need for the 'brake return string' that you show. Works fine that way.
I also have the float a motor mounts that you have installed (aluminum). What I did for a 'forward' anchor point is simple/clean and can be removed without any extra holes in anything. Looks like it belongs,eh :)
Take the nut off of the bottom of Floatamotor thru bolt. Make up a simple 1/4" thick flat iron 1" wide by 21/2" long or longer. Anyway, drill hole for motor mount bolt size and a hole on other end for brake spring to anchor to..
