Speedometrer Cable

hope

Senior Member
I was reluctant to ask, but i need to get more information on this:: So here goes: I s there a way to get a speedometer cable to fit the original connection to the turtle housing ( on the torque tube), and a more modern speedometer( Ford Motorsport,5/8 x 18").

I've searched here on the Ford Barn, and the general web sites, but only got more confused. i know there is the cut to fit cables, but seems to me there is a less expensive way to do this.

As you can guess; Finances are "tight" right now.:o

Thanks in advance to anyone that answers.

I used a 47 chevy cable 70" long square on both ends, off ebay $16.00, Zeke

Zeke......Did that adapt to the original "Turtle" on the torque tube, and a modern Speedometer like a Ford Motorsport (5/8 x 18) thread?:(

That would be what i'm looking for.

Yes I used a Dolphin after market mechanical speedometer and it went on the head and turtle both ends of the inner core being square. Zeke

it was listed on ebay as a 1937-61 Chevrolet passenger or 1947-72 GMC truck 70" cable.

Thanks ZEKE, i don't know if i'll be able to "score" something like that, but i'll be looking.:)

Check e-Bay, you can find all sorts of cable on there and they are very reasonable. Also use the info given to you by Zeke and go to your local Napa Auto parts store. you can probably get that cable for $20. You can also use the cable from an F-1 pickup if it's long enough..

One more time Zeke:o.

I've surfed the eBay site, BUT there is hundred's of them and only part# for identification. would you by any chances know the part no...

To others that answered THANK YOU, but i don't know of any speedometer cable shop around here.

Also Drake, i know has cables but are for "original" hook up, ($20.00) or so also has one sp-1500u kit cut to fit, witch is much more $$$$$.

And Zeke, i hope i'm not being a pest by asking more info: but if that's all the info you have its O.K.
I'll keep surfing eBay until my eyes give-out.:D and again thank you.

They might be to expensive, but I found it hard to believe that there were places that didn't have speedometer shops! A search showed three for Warwick, but can't always trust search returns.

Just to prove my point, i just had a reply for you and instead of sending it i deleted it:mad:.

I buy a lot online, but still enjoy finding someone local when I can. It gets more difficult everyday to find good local shops and when you do the cost of labor is too high. In the end I often end up onlining it, but there is a part of me that like the old days when you could just go to a local shop and talk face to face with someone knowledgeable and get something done. Oh, the good old days, now back to the internet!

I found this thread interesting in that there are towns that actually have speedometer shops. Thats a new one on me.
I guess living in the more rural areas has its disadvantages.
