GOD! I'm 78, you could be my "SON" also:D BUT, I don't even know your first NAME??
I spend hours here, no wonder I never finish off Vermin. I was determined to fire him off yesterday, BUT that earthquake rattled my whole being! My single Daughter, Cindy, lives in San Francisco!!!

74 end of the month. Bought mine 2 1/2 years ago.
Went to a swap-meet/Auction looking for an Ahhooooghhh horn and ended up buying one mounted on a 29 Tudor.
The Barn and the manuals available guided me through many repairs.
Thank you Barners, for all the help!

I'm lurking, learning, and hope to acquire a car in the next couple of years. I don't think reminding newbies that they can search the archives or use google to see what was in the past 1000 posts on a given subject is out of order. Got to keep it interesting for everyone.

Here's a link that might be useful (in a snarky sort of way):

I lurked for years, printed posts on what I figured were common problems and tricks of the trade. When you find your A you will wonder why you waited so long.

Hi fellas I'm a new ford model a owner. Just bought a 1931 2 door sedan.
I'm 59 years young. I also have a question for all of you.
What are the best fluids for a model a as in what oil, antifreeze, gas to put in the car?

I'm at work so I cant post a picture here but when I am at home later today I will post a few pictures . thanks in advance .

Ripe young age of 23... just wish I had bought a truck free of gremlins. It worked great before I paid for it! :D

Keep in mind these are 83+ year old cars and even if a car was 100% restored down to every pin, they would still have gremlins... look at them as a gift and challenge for you'll in time become an expert in the future.... Best wishes ;)

There is no BEST only personal opinion.

48 now but I built my first T speedster while in college (mid 80's) sold it and bought a 24 Studebaker which I had till Y2k when I woke up and got back to T's - then it was about 2 years ago (nearly to the day) when I was approached about selling my 15 T Runabout that I rarely drove - it was not as comfortable as our 26 Sedan and rain was a problem on tours (wife don't much care for rain). Not long thereafter I was searching e-bay for a new toy, my plans were either a late 20's LaSalle or a late T open car but I was also looking at A's for friends who wanted a Roadster when this nice looking un-restored 29 Roadster showed up. The friends wanted a later Deluxe, and I wound up buying the car for myself.

Can't say I wanted an A, but I'm glad to have it. I think I've put more miles on it in the time it was on the road than the last 5 or 6 I had the 15 T - only issue with the car being it's un-restored engine which I'm just tearing into. What blows me away is that the engine ran really good even with this build-up in nearly every cylinder...

Ok ,that being said does anyone on here have any PERSONAL OPINION as to what they use in their cars in regards to oil, antifreeze , gas .
I looked at the oil in my "new" 31 ford and its black so I want to dump it asap and put in what is recommended.
I read somewhere that back in the day they used mineral oil as that was all they had , and also read that now a days one guy said he puts in synthetic oil so again I would like to here from you guys as to what is used by the majority of members here.
Thanks in advance, Frank

I am a new owner but have been around Model A's since my late grandfather purchased my car back in 1991. I am going through a lot of the same issues as others but have got my car back on the road after sitting in my dad's barn for 10 years.
I'm just a pup here, I guess, at the age of 48.

REALLY! OK, ANY oil recommended for motor vehicles will work just fine in your model A. Mineral oil is not a recommended motor vehicle oil. There is NO one brand that the majority uses.

ANY brand antifreeze mixed in accordance with the directions on the container will work in your model A. No antifreeze and a rust prohibitive will work in your model A.

Specific brands are just personal preference. Do a search for "best motor oil" and you will find 20 pages, 500 posts on the subject. You can take your time and read them all or take my word for it and save some time, the cheapest walmart oil to the most expensive syn oil can and is used in the model A.
