flywheel Q...

I'm having an aluminum flywheel made for a B. I'm told that it will be about 26 lbs. Anyone here ever run an aluminum flywhl, and if so, what was/is your observations and results from such use , i.e.- as expected, good, bad, not worth the trouble/expense. Experienced use please, not theory :) !

I use 350 Chev V8 aluminum flywheels.
They weigh 12 lb. For model A/B I use a 9 inch long clutch.

Pete,
What is the starter arrangement when using a Chev V8 flywheel?

This is the only pic I have of one.
Standard Chev gear drive starter and there is a piece of 3/16 x 1 inch bar stock between the starter and block. Bar stock is bolted to block with 2 countersunk head screws and drilled to take the 2 starter bolts. The inner starter bolt is tapped through the bar into the block. The outer one is a through bolt in the bar. ALL PARTS ARE DOWELED for repeatability of remove and replace.

Uuuuh! I like it !
Does that long pressure plate 9" require different/special throwout to use on my B ?

I got off the track there for a moment.
Here are the model B pics.
The starter bracket bolts to the transmission adapter on the B.

Hey Derek,
Hm, how the heck does a kiwi get an aluminum flywhl from Bill, before me here in the good ole U. S. A. ? I ordered one sometime ago and waiting. Let me know how you like the effect overall on your engine :) !
Yeah, Pete's 'long' clutch looks appealing to my senses. Wonder what the gripping power is, say compared to same size 9" with counter weights ? Also, wondering if different throw out bearing/arm will be necessary..or just will fit ? And, what about disc..same/different from A/B trans.

Hardtimes , Had mine a while , Bills flywheels are a work of art worth waiting for, However at chickasha swap here is an unused with new 10" preasure plate & clutch , at only 24lb plus the preasure plate my knees were saging before reaching the truck, you guessed it was at the other end of the swap meet, no trolley, so ended up with two. Same throwout bearing works on the 9" & others, I did endup with two 9.5" preasure plates & they donot match the pre drilled in the flywheel , bugger, Will be some time before setting up & running as crank still be worked on .
