8 ba in a 39 standard

Put an 8BA in a '40. I shortened and welded the crank hub for clearance and it was minimal. I used a spacer that fit inside the pulley so I could adjust the pulley for belt alignment. It uses the wide belt with the truck pumps. The crank pulley bolt replacement was about 3" long, as I remember. You might find some archive articles on this swap. Have fun!

19Fordy- I stacked fat washers, maybe 9 or 10, ground the edges down to fit in the pulley snout and drilled each one to fit the new crank bolt. Not very scientific but it gave me the availability to adjust the pulley in or out for belt alignment.

The factory crank bolt washer captured the other washers and grabbed the inside lip of the pulley allowing it to tighten to spec. There is no wobble or looseness. Sorry no photos as it is on the car.

The mods you are using on a '40 don't apply to a '39 standard.

As 42merc stated, '39 Standards used a different fan set-up than a '39 DeLuxe or any of the '40s did. '39 Standards had the fan mounted up high, bolted directly to the generator pulley. This ought to pretty easy to adapt to an 8BA-type generator. DD

I agree V8Coopman. Swap the generator mount and install 40 pulley and fan.
An electric fan may ease a few more clearance issues.

It's in a standard not a deluxe, so he ain't gonna want a 40 type setup with a fan on the crank. the standard had the fan on the generator.
He needs a combination with the fan on the generator.
33rag,
How complete is the 8BA? Does it have usable water pumps on it? Or will it need new ones? Their was a thread here the other day by OlRon, with details of an 8BA fitted with early type pumps and generator still side mount ignition, this was a modified Chevy ignition. This setup should work well in your car, just use a generator mounted fan.
Martin.

BABAR40...Please re-read MY suggestion...nothing to do with a '40 pulley and fan! DD
