Any Model A places to visit in LA?

I'm heading to LA next week for work and wondered if there are any cool places to visit in the area where I could learn more about the Model A?

Museums, parts houses, car shows, maybe even meet up with a member of this fine forum and let me poke my head around under the hood of your car?

I'll even buy the beverages!

I'm flying into Bob Hope this afternoon and I will mostly be working along the north side of the metro area along the 210 freeway. Burbank to San Bernardino. I'll be heading back to Tucson on Friday.

Thanks in advance for any tips on where to go.

Not necessarily Model A related:

Nethercutt Collection, Sylmar: I recall a Sports Coupe (with a black roof!) and a Deluxe Phaeton, but the rest of the automobile and locomotive collection is worth a morning. Also the big Wurlitzer organ is unique.

The Peterson, downtown: A few years back they had a nice display of a mid-30's Ford showroom with a 32 or 34 Coupe.

I did them in the same day with a stop at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley between the museums.

Also, check for "Cars and Coffee" events in the area. I went to the one in Thousand Oaks on Sunday morning. They had a little of everything, supercars, antiques, A's, Dean Martin's Eldorado, bikes, etc.

must see: Justice Bros' office and museum at 210 and 605. not necessarily Model A, but more cool stuff than you'd believe!
(on Huntington Drive, south side, between 605 and the San Gabriel River.
(Wynn's Friction Proofing, additives, old Indy builder/racers, and car collectors)
Friendly folks...

Burbank is a nice town, if you like vintage Hot Rods stop in Old Crow Speed Shop in the center of town. The Nethercutt Collection is a MUST SEE and it is totally FREE. We went to both back in June, bring a camera. Bob

CW Moss in Orange is an interesting parts house. They usually have cars on display. Downtown Orange is quaint and interesting to visit too.

If you go to Justice Bros you have to drive slow and look real hard to see it on the right hand side. I drove by it three times before I found it. Have a lot of old Fords. Not open on the weekend. Gary

Nethercutt is probably closest to where you will be at the 210 freeway. It is excellent with dozens of beautiful cars on display. When I went to Nethercutt, I believe there was a Model A station wagon (woody) on display and one other Model A. They have Pierce Arrows, Packards, and all kinds of other cars. All the cars run and are started periodically to ensure they still operate.

The Peterson has excellent displays on a variety of car eras - everything from brass cars to Bugatti Veyron (depending on what they have on display at that time). They have so many cars, they rotate many of the cars on display. They also have various special displays. One time I was there, they had a display of Foose cars. Another time, they had a display of vintage trailers and motorhomes. Sometimes they have a 30 or 31 Model A coupe on display. It is on Wilshire Blvd not too far from the LA County Art museum and the La Brea tar pits (dinosaur fossils).

Depending on your time and how far you want to drive, the Mullin Museum in Oxnard is very good also. They specialize in French cars from the art deco and machine age. They include Bugatti, Delahay, Talbot-Lago, etc. It is open to the public only on certain days. This week, it is open Wednesday (Aug. 13).

Also in Oxnard is the Murphy Museum. They are open Wednesdays from 6pm to 10pm so you could possibly do both the Mullin and Murphy on the same day.

Have a great visit here and I hope you can visit one or more of these interesting automotive museums. They are not specifically Model A, but each is still an excellent experience.

If I were you and knowing what I know, I'd head over to one of the oldest established old ford ..1928/1934 .. parts houses/businesses in SoCal.
Specialty Ford Parts....9101 E. Garvey Ave Rosemead, Calif 91770
1(626)280-4546. As Jim's catalogue says...4 cyl parts and accessories and lots of good stuff:) ! Been there for decades/decades !
His hours are a little odd , i.e.- after 11am mon/fri; sat 9am/2pm. Well worth the visit. I know an old time FAST guy who helped move this business to this current address back when...1959....and who lives nearby.

BTW...nice to know someone that has a job !

Another fun place to visit, if you have time, is the Adams Ave. Donut Shop in Huntington Beach, Saturday mornings early.....from about 6:00-8:30 am. Lots of neat cars to see and usually several Model A's in attendance. At the corner of Adams Ave. and Magnolia St.

Go back and read post #13...the Rosemead joint is a tiny little Disneyland for Old Ford people. Half museum, half store, bottomless pit of history!

I stopped in on a trip to California a few years back, clutching my catalog that I sent away for in 1965 when I was a penniless student.
The head dude glanced at it, and said "we don't honor the prices in that anymore."

You probably don't want to see this...

So avoid The Old Crow Speed Shop, 52 E. Palm Ave, Burbank Ca so that you don't see an 8 time world record holder for 4 banger naturally aspirated land speed car.

if you will still be in CA on the 24th there is a swap meet put on by the san Fernando model a club http://sfvalleymodela.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Swap-meet-20141.pdf
there is also Bobs big Boy every Friday night cruise inn
http://www.bobs.net/

This IS a worthwhile event to patronize, as this is the San Antonio Boys Home. I understand that this home benefits from this event...and that is why I attend. Be sure that you are there EARLY as the parts fly off the guys tables/trailers ! Lots of great old Fords/others (some for sale) park on field also. And, there is good grub sold for club benefit :) !
BTW..the Burbank BoBs Big Boy mentioned, may be the most famous such BoBs franchise restaurant in the world.....BUT, there is a new Bobs located just down the road a mile/two from this swap meet, so good eats can be had closeby. And, at this Bobs, as in Burbank Bobs....lots of old iron gathers starting every Friday eve around 4pm

Jason forgot to mention the music that will be playing at The Old Crow Speed Shop, late 1940's stuff, it's a TOTAL Time Warp. If you love 4Banger speed equipment that is the place. Bob
