Cabriolet Vacuum Wiper lines / pipes

I am guessing it wont make a lot of difference if you have a right or left hand drive as the basic setup will be the same just the point of pipe passing through thewindshield will change.

I have a 68B 1931 right hand drive and would like to know how the pipes / lines runs up through the firewall and to the vacuum motor.

Does it run up the inside of the garnish inside the car?
Where does it run along the header?

Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

regards
in advance

From looking at my 1931 68B the vacuum line comes through the firewall and then up the RH side windshield post and then through the windshield header. The vacuum wiper rubber hose goes through the windshield frame and into the header where I assume it connects to the vacuum line. Here are some photos , hope this helps!

Thanks very much for that do you have a pic from under the dash wher the pipe comes through the firewall and the route to the pillar?

cheers

Here is the diagram for the wiper vacuum line routing from the Ford Service Bulletin August 1929 page 370.

Here are the Service Bulletin instructions on how to install a Vacuum wiper replacing an electric wiper.

HOW IT IS INSTALLED
1. Remove present wiper from the wind-shield.

2. Insert windshield cleaner control stem through the hole in the frame formerly used for cleaner shaft. Place two flat-sided spacers over the stem from the inside of the car. Note: On some of the former types of Fordor, only the shorter flat-sided spacer is used.

3. Assemble 1/4" machine screw from the in-side of the car, screwing it into the threaded hole in the cleaner holding plate.

4. Drill the intake manifold with 11/32 " drill 2 1/2" above the carburetor flange and thread with a 1/8 " pipe tap (see Fig. 752). Note: On some cars this hole is already provided. Inwhich case simply remove the plug.

5. Screw the compression body into the threaded manifold hole. Caution: Do not tighten the compression nut which is a part of the body.

6. Drill a 11/32 " hole through the dash to the right of the sediment bulb (see Fig. 752), care must be used not to drill through into the tank.
Note: This hole is also provided on some cars. In this case, discard the small button used to plug the hole.

7. Insert the brass tube end into the compression body as far as possible, and tighten the nut. (Be sure the tube is well seated in the fitting before tightening nut.) Connect other end of tube into the dash
connector in the same manner.

8. From the inside of the car, slip one end of the hose over connector on dash and carry other end up the right pillar post to the top of the windshield. (Secure hose by clips. The clips can be held by any of the
present conveniently located screws.) See Fig. 753. Use care not to kink the hose in any way.

9. On the former Fordor models, clamp the hose to the beading on pillar post with special "U" shaped clip provided. On these models, drill an 11/32 " hole through the header not more than 1" from the pillar post. Pass the hose through to the outside of the car where the hose holding clips can be secured under the visor screws.

10. On other models, carry the hose across the top of the windshield frame on the inside, and secure it by slipping clips under the screws located above the windshield. Drill an 11/32 " diameter hole through the frame approximately 6" to the right of the cleaner. (See Fig. 753.) (Avoid kinking the hose.)

11. Pass the hose through the hole and slip the end on the cleaner nipple. Assemble the blade to the rod and hook the spring clip onto the shaft. Next pull down on the rod, inserting rod end into shaft hole.

12. Assemble the blade to the rod and hook the spring clip onto the shaft. Next pull down on the rod, inserting rod into shaft hole.

Instruction#8 says to run the hose up the A pillar. Is it inside the a pillar or surface mounted / behind the pillar trim molding? Can't visualize how the hose would exit the pillar if inside and makes the 90 deg. bend to go across the windshield header

Keep this slide in mind. Many mysterious vacuum leaks that affect engine performance by leaning the air-gas ratio occur in the vacuum wiper motor.

Can anyone answer this question, whereby the vac. line is surfaced against the A pillar as in figure 753, not inside it ?

the vacuum steel line goes up against the pillar. it has a 90 on the top where it comes out from under the molding. your hose connects to the line after the 90. Snyder`s has the line part# A17522
