Door handle escutcheons?

I've got these repro door handle escutcheon plates from Mac's for my '31 coupe. They're in two parts-one is clearly a backing plate or similar, but i have really no idea how to correctly mount them.

I'd appreciate any photos (of either side of the door panel) or information on what kind of hole to make around the inner door handle, how to keep them together, etc. Thanks.

The escutcheons should have little prongs that are to go through the door panel and are bent over the backing washer that is placed on the back of the panel to lock it in place.
You will have to carefully make some small slits to allow the prongs to poke through the panel from the front.

When you are done it should look like this from the back of the panel:
