I thought I had seen it ALL.......Until Today....

OK....so you are talking about events you do at the homes for the seniors. One of the women who lives in the home got to see her son win an award for his car? In my group we would a given him the award to make his Mom happy.... Just sayin.

I have no intent on showing my car for awards. It is for me to tinker with and drive. A trophy would just mean less room for my car parts....

Lets face it, car shows have changed(hasn't everything?). Generally speaking, people participating in shows now are of the younger variety. They don't relate to 32s or 34s or even 57s like us old guys. They do relate to Mustangs, Corvettes, ect. A lot of them don't know what a 34 Ford is. I recently took my 34 resto rod to a show at a Ford dealer lot. Very few people even looked at it and most entries were Mustangs, later pickups.ect. That's the way it is and I accept it. In the 60s, I built a 34 to win and I did most of the time. It was fun. I think everyone likes to win once in a while. And don't get me wrong, now I would rather just go to an unorganized car get together (no awards), and visit with friends(we have one here once a month); or show at nursing homes and charity events. And CC33 and Joe Immler, at least the Spectators Choice and Peoples Choice winners were voted on by non car owner participants, and were unbiased(hopefully).

Guys... Do not get me wrong......... I had a fantastic time...... He was just so annoying. His mother was also annoying the way she spoke to the other residents.

Like I said I have been doing this for over 15 years and this guy just made me Puke...... I am over it and we have another on Tuesday where there are no Votes for cars or trucks.

This guy just thought.......::His **** Don't Stink::

I would prefer to think that maybe it made the guy's mother feel good that her son came to the event. I try not to judge others and I also don't care what others think about my own cars. There is lots more in life to worry about.

"Car Show" and Cruise Night trophies are worthless and mean absolutely nothing. My brother gets bothered if he and his 1941 Buick do not "win" a trophy at these events. He has over 100 now. I openly laugh at his "trophies". Yet he refuses to enter his car in Buick Club sanctioned events. It is probable that he knows he can't "win" at those venues.

I enjoy a good car show, seeing all of the great looking cars and talking to the owners. I usually leave before trophies are passed out.

Kind of like the "Participant" ribbons given out to kids nowadays just for showing up.

Exactly. When I was a student athlete the coach would march us past the Trophy Table before the tournament and told us if we wanted a trophy and mention in the school announcements we had to WIN. Only the Champ went home with a trophy.

Interesting and varied comments here. Nothing wrong with a 68 Shelby Mustang; in fact if I had the money, I'd probably buy one, but I havn't so I'll Have to settle for my 32 B Cabriolet.

There's a whole bunch of interesting and talented folk in to motorcars. Some are engineers; others just drivers who don't know an axle from a spark plug. There's polishers and posers and there's drivers and trophy collectors. It's the whole bunch that make up the human race. Take one out of the equation and conversation evaporates.

Over the years I have found people are into this hobby for various reasons ,Modified ,stock ,show ,Driver .I was at this car show and a old guy turns up with a nice old T (picture ) one of the guys there couldn't say any thing nice about the car because he had replaced some of the Coach /carriage bolts in the wheel with ones from the local hardware that had a logo stamped on the head . obviously done in a emergency .I say thanks for turning up ,otherwise we wouldn't have a show .

I like the cruise-ins where people just go to have a gathering of people who like old cars, rods, and socializing. I have never really liked the judging aspect of the hobby and have never shown any of my vehicles other than putting one or two on display during the town festival and the like. I have helped set up car shows and do not mind volunteering my time, but I am not interested in judging. I have seen numerous examples of what the original poster of this thread wrote about, have seen the local car win when it should not, etc and I just don't really find the stress and controversy to be worthwhile to me.

I probably shouldn't say this but.... I've never gotten the Mustang thing. They are just so ordinary. Beautiful car production ended in the 50s. But I agree with other posts above , who care about the trophies, a smile from a older person as they remember their youth is worth a million trophies.

Actually about 73-74 was the end of the nice looking cars IMHO. I used to love Mustangs I just kind of got bored with them. Never stopped liking Torinos though. 70 and 71 are the only two years of those I like. 68-69 a somewhat close second.
