hershey next week makes an old man like me feel like a kid on christmas eve every one in the hobby schould experance it once

10-4 on that.

I'm 39 years old and have been lucky enough that this will be my 33rd year attending.

2nd year with a spot. Gotta love it.

help me picture what hershey looks like. I have never been. I see close up pictures of items, but never a broad one showing multiple fields, does it really take days to see?

Aqua, you just need to know two things about the Hershey fields:
1. They are VAST.
2. They are one of the last car fleamarkets that have not been consumed by repro Mustang parts, Honda stuff, and endless rows of Chinese tools.
3. (Sorry I'm making this so complicated...) The fields contain not only everything you are looking for, but many encounters with wonders you did not know existed until you bumped into them! 110 year old cars chugging around, gigantic full classics worth more than your entire neighborhood, dealer displays on how a Knight Sleeve Valve engine works, steamers, art, the bizarre and the beautiful...you will go home with your eyes still bugging out on stalks!

Bruce. You forgot to mention the lady in high heels and tight pants walking a dog about the size of a baby mouse. Always at least one of them there every year I have been there. LOL

I have been going to Hershey since 1970 and have never covered the entire field. Someday I would like to go for 3 days and cover everything at least once.

Friday is one of my favorite days since that is when the race cars are being judged. They have to run in order to qualify.

I'll never forget the sound of Connie Colletta's Bounty Hunter dragster being fired up. It was freakin' mean & shook you to the core.

Some other favorite racers were one of the 1st SBC-powered Indy cars. That engine also sounded incredible.

Some guy also brought a '69 Cougar Grand-Am (or what ever class the '69 Z-28's & Boss 302 ran). The Cougar had a race-ready 302 that sounded awesome at idle and even better going around the track.

Another neat thing to stumble upon at Hershey are the big money sales. Generally, some European dude will be doing a cash deal for an old Ferrari race car (or add any seven figure car in this space).

It usually goes along something like this:

European (regardless of age), dressed like an Californian hipster, will be walking around with a large translator/body guard. You'll know this is the deal and not just two buddies bumming around for the body guard will look like he threw shot put or hammer at one of the more recent Olympic games. Sometimes their brief case will be handcuffed to one of their wrists.

The level of trust determines who's wrist it will be.

Brief case is laid out on either the hood of the car or body guard will holding it to show the buyer this is a legit offer.

A spirited discussion ensues and deal is struck. Euro guy arranges for the car to be transported home.

Sounds dull, but is pretty neat to observe a big-time cash deal go down like that.

That is one of the events that you'll see at a typical Hershey.

Well, maybe not this year since the world-wide economy took a dump. Unless the hipsters are now coming from Brazil.

I attended Hershey several years ago with a mission. A friend was restoring a 1914 Cadie and needed a front hub cap. The rear hub cap was different than the one on the front. I found one for $75.00. If you can not find it at Hershey, it does not exist.

Re: Hershey

Welcome to the Hershey show. Every one needes to experance it at least once. Our club Hershey region puts this show on a lot of work but very enjoyable. The flea market will take 2 full days to cover. Car coral with about 1200 vehicles for sale. Car show on Saturday with about 1500 vehicles Come and enjoy. Huff:)

Re: hershey Where is Hershey ? What State ?

Where is Hershey ? What State ? sounds like a meet of all meets, would like to go there one day, enjoy the days guys and gals ..:):)

Re: Hershey

Hershey Meet is in Hershey Pennsylvania easter part of the state. Oct. 6-7-8-9. Welcome all you will not be disapointed. Huff

Lawson,
Are you going this year? Do you have a spot? I'd like tohook up and say hello.
Bruce/CT

I doubt I will make it this year. My legs just won't hold out on me for that much walking/standing etc. Maybe one day I'll go back and rent a motorized wheel chair and at least ride around some. lol

A lot of us played pro ball too hard for to little money. At 77 my legs are completly gone. I have a big handicap scooter that goes every where I go. Could not go with out it.
They also rent handicap vehicles at hershey. My first time at Hershey was 1978.
The first time you walk onto the swap field you just cant believe it.
I'm still going and still buying. Currently doing a front axle assembly as the first step to a new body roadster. Hop I live long enought to finish it.
Check my profile for pictures of some of my cars.

Let's see if I got the picture thing right. I've got two aerial/satellite images of Hershey off of the net. In the overall view, just about everything paved is flea market or car corral. The close up gives an idea of just how big the overall area is. (They totally layout the flea market independent of the striped parking spaces.)
Sorry! Couldn't get the images any bigger.

Re: Hershey

Huff--- you must be running the fields --- to do everything justice, you have to allow about a day a field. Else, you are going to miss something.
And the only time you will be disappointed is when it rains.
Remember -- you cant control 'mother nature'.

I wanted to go this year but Monday I go in the Hospital for ete Surgery again. We were going to leaave Tuesday. If I can get out Monday night then I will leave Tuesday?? It all up in the air now.It raining here and I need to get the Motor Home ready. I hate working in the rain.:D
