Where was my model A assembled

I am trying to figure out where my 28 was assembled. I have found out that engine stamp/Vin don't tell you that. The stamp number is A748,XXX (I was told to do it that way, The XXX thing) so I know that was Dec. 1928. Now was that when the engine was assembled, Or the whole car? Now as far as the "Location of assembly" I have not been able to find any good answer on where to find it. It is a 28 fordor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why the "XXX"? What exactly is the reasoning? No one will steal your engine/transmission number. My 1937 Ford is 18-3514381. Not a big deal. Not sure why some think that this is some huge crack in security. Every Ford Model A engine/transmission number and V-8 engine/transmission number is known.

Where was it assembled? Ah, the $64,000.00 question.

First your engine, if the original engine number and not a restamp, was assembled on December 12 or 13, 1928.

NOW...Does the engine number match the frame number?

Is there a date on the gas tank?

Since it is a Fordor, the assembly codes may or may not be there because of the wood subframe in the body. As that fact goes, they may or may not be there with metal subframes also but more than likely they are.

Is this an original, assembled vehicle and not one that has been peiced together over the years to make a complete car?

Go to my website and go to Additional Studies...then go to Letters, Numbers, and Codes and see if you can pick up any useful information on where to find some of the above answers to questions.

Tony you could post your number and it be match a stolen vin. There are many vehicles sporting the same vin numbers out there but in different states. Google the vin number you posted and it will find you.

It did find me; I googled the number and it led me right to this thread.

@ Tony I seen the XXX thing on another site called H.A.M.B. I have heard that they are another good site for model A research so I took the advice to heart. I am still VERY new to this web site and working on "Stock" Model A's. I try to word my post as to not tick anyone by my lack of knowledge and terminologies. if for some reason this has pissed you off..
@ Steve The number on the engine has that "Hand stamped" look, (They don't line up stright) and there is a star on both side's. Also the number on the engine is the same as the vin on the registration. As far as the number on the frame... I have no idea where to even start looking for it. Same goes for the gas tank. I will check you web site and see what I can see.
@Dave Mc Would the "Sub floor rail" be in the car under the seat, Or under the car under the seat. I saw a cross member under there, But about the only thing I can see about half of it because of the battery.
Again thanks for all the help. You guy's rock (o:

My 28 sport coupe has a gas tank stamped 2/28/28. The body number je1008 was stamped on the front cross member. This body was assembled in jacksonville, fl. Which opened for production on may 7, 1928. Frame number & engine # do not match.:(

Crock,

Can you post a photo on that date on the gas tank?

Sounds very early to me but one never knows in this business.

Most dated tanks started in May of 1928 (05-xx-28).

@ Dave The only cross brace I see is made of wood. I will try to post a picture, Have not had much luck doing that on this site for some reason. If it is the one I'm looking at it has some kind of vinyl wraped and stapled to it. Dont think it came that way but not sure I want to tear it off. If it's not what I'm supposed to be looking at, Can you give me a clue from the pic?
@ Tony Thanks, Still got a lot ot learn. This year I'm just going to drive and enjoy it, But come rainy season will start with the serious stuff. Thats when I will need the luck ;0)
Now to find the date stamp on the tank, Do I need to take off the gauges and stuff or just get on my back with a flash light?
I also found a 1929 penny under the seat!

oops! Sorry about the may date. Looked again, the date is 8-7-28 eyes must be getting tired.:d

Digging under the seat of a Tudor we once had, I found some items that I could have used to blackmail the previous owner! Pretty embarrassing. He was quite 'active', would be the polite way of saying it! Since he was then happily married, I just took the stuff and quietly tossed them in the trash and never said anything!

wasn't sure if his wife was involved or there was someone else!

@ Steve. Well finally got your website to open (not your bad, Adobe Reader X issue) and holy cow, there is a butt load of info there! I looked on my car for the tank stamp and either it's not there or it's under the paint, So if I take the paint off this winter I will keep that in mind and look for it.
@ BlueSunoco.... Some things are just best left alone.
Going to get a bit off subject here. When I bought the car, The previous owner told me he had some shop manuals for working on the car. Well almost 7 months later and the day after I recived the one I bought from Snyder's (The one in the center) I get home Tuesday and sitting on the bench by the door is two shop manuals! Now I have kinda browsed thru them, But obviously not read them completely. Is one better then the other, All about the same? Either way between the three of them,Steve's website, The barn and H.A.M.B, I should be good to go.
As for the original question, I may never know the $64,000.00 answer! But I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Going to have fun driving it for now, Then when I start to break her down, Maybe things will be a bit easier to decipher. Thanks a bunch for all the help.
