Loose Hub Bearing Races

Yes, I know this subject has been discussed before, as I Have searched to no end today. I read about a method of tightening up the races by center punching around the inside of the hub surface. Does anyone have any pictures or more info on this procedure? Also locktite would be an option but I wonder if any problem would arise if the race isn't centered properly.

With the center/***** punch method, just punch twice perpendicular to the hub and race in about a quarter of the distance from bottom and top of the race/cup. Does that make sense ? [ it does to me, just wondering if I've made sense]. Then repeat equally around the diameter 6 to 8 times. [ 12 or 16 punch marks]
This was Fords fix back in the 50s/60s and it did work good, surprised me. It centers the cup very nicely and doesn't take much time to do.

It makes sense, I will have to try this, as getting new hubs isnt an option right now. All the bearings and races were replaced by the PO. I just wondered if there were other who had done it. Thanks

I am fortunate I live a long long way from him so it is not likely I will meet him on the road.

In addition to the punch marks I would use a hard setting liquid to lock the race in position. The auto parts store should have a bearing locker made by Loctite. !6 punch marks by themselves would likely wear loose after a short time.
Done right this will likely be a good permanent repair. I always prefer perfect parts and would buy them given the chance, but I also wouldn't be afraid of a good repair.

exactly as tom says , green locktite for bearing races
sometimes i use punch marks and locker as back up on a tight hub
