Hi all.
I've always owned 60s GM muscle cars, until the last several years when I bought a 1964 Austin Healey 3000 and an 80s Honda which I race in the local autocross. The only Ford I've owned was my 1994 Escort daily, which I'd still be driving today had we not needed a larger car when we had kids.
But, I'm first and foremost a car guy, and I appreciate just about anything with four wheels. I love cars.
A few years ago, our oldest started school. We long ago knew we would be sending them to a private school (you don't send your kids to public schools in Memphis if you can even remotely afford not to). In order to maintain my expensive car hobbies (racing, and I'm also currently restoring a 69 Chevelle convertible) I started selling on Ebay again. I've been selling off and on since 1997 and it's made me a lot of money in the past (I built the garage/shop at my first house with Ebay money).
I sell mostly anything I can get my hands on but I naturally gravitate toward car parts. Last summer I purchased about 10 van loads of mostly NOS old Ford parts 1928-1980s with most falling in the 1930s-1960s.
Now, I'm not trying to advertise, so I'm not going to post a link to our store. Rather, I'd like to ask for assistance from time to time. While I love old cars, old Fords are not my strong suit. I've learned a lot in the last year, but I still scratch my head a lot, and people ask me questions that I cannot answer easily. Also, I make errors in listings sometimes because I often have nothing to go by except the part number on the box, and the part inside the box is sometimes not that part. And I HATE sending someone the wrong part. I have some parts books, but mostly for trucks, and they're incomplete.
Here's one, for instance.
The box says differential carrier assembly, part number 1A-4017. Cast into the assembly is 1A-4025.
I THINK it decodes to 1949-1954 Ford, but that's based on what's on the box. I can't find anything on the 1A-4025.
I had a question from someone, asking if it would fit a 1954 Mercury. That one was way out of my league. My hunch is no, but I don't have access to a Hollander book, so I can't. Might not be a bad idea to pick on up, I do get asked these questions from time to time.
So, anyway, hello from Memphis, and any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
